Standard Bank is hiring a Universal Banker for their Knysna branch in the Western Cape. About the role
As a Universal Banker at Standard Bank in Knysna, you will be the friendly face clients see when they walk into the branch. You will chat with them to understand what they need, help solve their queries and recommend the right banking products and digital channels.
Your day to day will include opening, changing and closing client accounts, checking account conduct and income details so you can give good advice, and making sure every step follows KYC, POPIA and FAIS rules. You will also spend time promoting banking products, helping clients use self service options and keeping your records up to date.
This is a branch based role where you will work closely with your team to keep service standards high and help the branch grow. You need to be comfortable handling pressure, asking the right questions and explaining things clearly to clients.

Requirements
- National Certificate or equivalent NQF 5 FAIS aligned qualification in banking, financial services, commerce, sales, client service or a related field
- Must meet FAIS Fit and Proper requirements
- 3 to 4 years experience in branch banking, financial services, contact centre sales or client facing sales
- Proven sales track record with experience identifying client needs, cross selling and meeting targets
- Strong understanding of banking products, account opening, application processing and customer acceptance
- Experience in a regulated environment with risk, compliance, KYC, POPIA and FAIS requirements
- Confident client engagement skills with the ability to build rapport, handle pressure and provide practical solutions
Responsibilities
- Engage clients across branch and related banking channels to understand their needs and provide suitable banking solutions
- Identify sales opportunities through client conversations and promote relevant banking products and channels
- Open, amend, transfer and close client accounts following laid down procedures and risk controls
- Assess client needs by reviewing account conduct, income and expenditure, scorecards and supporting information
- Educate clients on banking processes, digital functionality, self service channels and product features
- Maintain accurate records, update management information and adhere to team ways of work
- Deliver excellent client service while meeting risk, compliance and FAIS requirements
