About the role
Capitec's Nexus Credit team is looking for a Test Automation Engineer II to sit in the engine room of their credit products. This is not a role at the edges of a product. You will work directly with credit and data science workflows where quality decisions carry real financial consequences for real people.
What you will do:
- Design and run end to end automated test suites that give the team confidence before anything ships
- Own test coverage across credit product flows, from origination and account management through to behavioural and data driven processes
- Write and maintain service stubs and mocks so testing can happen independently of live systems
- Query and validate data using SQL to make sure the right outcomes land in the right places
- Track, report, and communicate test results clearly, surfacing risks early
- Support and guide less experienced engineers as the team grows
About the team: You will join the Nexus Credit team working on term loans, credit cards, access facilities, payday management, and the data science models behind credit decisions. The work is technically deep and includes event driven architectures, behavioural scoring, and real time financial data. The team is split across Stellenbosch and Sandton, so you can be based at either location. Half the team is already distributed and it works well.

Requirements
- Grade 12 National Certificate or Vocational
- A relevant tertiary qualification
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Information Technology (minimum)
- ISTQB Foundation Level certification (ideal or preferred)
- 3 to 5 years of hands on experience in test automation
- Solid working knowledge of Playwright or transferable tools such as Selenium
- JavaScript or Node.js for test automation as your primary language
- SQL fundamentals including PostgreSQL and or SQL Server
- Familiarity with test management, quality assurance practices, reporting, and defect tracking
- Understanding of software development lifecycles, APIs, and system integration concepts
- Ability to analyse, interpret, and validate system behaviour, not just run scripts
- Service stubbing or mocking using Node.js (advantageous)
- Exposure to Kafka, event driven architecture, AWS cloud services, or credit or financial services environments (advantageous)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working across engineering, product, and data teams
