About the role
Our client in the Sandton area needs a Stone Mason to construct, install, repair and maintain stone structures and finishes. You will work according to construction drawings, project specs, quality standards and health and safety rules.
What you will do:
- Read and interpret construction drawings, take measurements and follow specifications.
- Select, measure, cut, shape and prepare natural or manufactured stone.
- Lay stone such as granite, sandstone and limestone to build walls, steps, pillars, fireplaces and other structures.
- Prepare and apply mortar, grout and bonding materials.
- Align, level and plumb stonework for accuracy and stability.
- Install stone cladding, paving, coping and decorative finishes.
- Repair damaged masonry and replace defective stones.
- Calculate material quantities to reduce waste.
- Use and maintain masonry tools and equipment safely.
- Inspect work, fix defects and keep your work area clean and safe.
- Follow site safety procedures, wear PPE and report hazards.
- Work with other trades and meet project deadlines.
- Report material shortages, technical issues and progress to the Site Supervisor.
Requirements
- Relevant stone masonry qualification, trade certificate or equivalent practical experience.
- Proven experience in stone masonry and construction work.
- Ability to read construction drawings and take accurate measurements.
- Knowledge of mortar mixing, stone cutting, laying techniques and finishing methods.
- Experience using masonry hand tools and power tools.
- Knowledge of construction quality standards and safe working practices.

- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working area.
- Follow site safety procedures, wear appropriate personal protective equipment and report hazards.
- Work collaboratively with other construction trades and meet project deadlines.
- Report material shortages, technical issues and progress to the Site Supervisor.
