Overview

Absa is looking for a Specialist Solution Analyst to join a DevOps team in Johannesburg. You will turn business needs into clear user stories and system requirements, then support design and manual testing. It is a hands on role for someone with a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology who enjoys analysis, collaboration and seeing solutions through from start to finish.

About the role

As a Specialist Solution Analyst at Absa, you will work inside a DevOps team where analysis, design and testing come together. Your job is to understand what the business needs, translate that into user stories and specifications, and then stay involved through design and delivery.

You will spend time with business users to learn how processes actually work, help prioritise the backlog, and work with Tribe Leads to shape roadmaps and solution scope. You will also define acceptance criteria, testing requirements and detailed system requirements that cover interfaces and integration points across systems.

During delivery, you will help the team resolve change requirements, run manual testing, review system stability, and support user acceptance testing. You will also coach and mentor others in the DevOps team and take part in peer reviews.

Application note: Applications are handled through Absa's official careers portal. Use the Apply button to complete your application on the bank's own system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology
  • Ability to elicit, define and organise business requirements using specialist analysis and testing tools, frameworks and techniques
  • Experience translating business requirements into user stories and system specifications that cover integration points, risks and opportunities
  • Knowledge of business analysis and modelling tools, including notation standards such as UML or BPMN
  • Ability to define manual testing strategies, test cases and acceptance criteria
  • Understanding of technical landscapes and system integration across tech stacks
  • Strong collaboration skills for working with squads, scrum masters, engineers and stakeholders
  • Coaching and mentoring ability for developing analysts and team members

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with business users and become an expert in various business processes
  • Translate elicited needs into user stories that DevOps teams can build and test
  • Prepare and prioritise the backlog of requirements for proposed solutions
  • Work with Tribe Leads to build a roadmap and vision for products and services
  • Define measures of success, key outcomes and acceptance criteria for features
  • Translate business requirements into detailed system requirements, including capabilities, interfaces and functionalities
  • Use UML and BPMN to document business requirements, processes, system processes and integration points
  • Facilitate sessions so integrated requirements are understood and approved by stakeholders
  • Collaborate with project teams, squads and engineers on backlog, release and DevOps planning
  • Continuously improve system requirements mapping for easier interpretation by development teams
  • Define and lead manual testing strategies, test cases and frameworks for solutions
  • Provide real time feedback on change requirements during testing and review system stability and resilience
  • Support developers and users during user acceptance testing
  • Coach, mentor and conduct peer reviews across the DevOps team and broader analyst community

Success Guide

This role sits in Absa's DevOps space, so your application should show more than an IT degree. Highlight any exposure you have to business analysis, writing user stories, or manual testing. If you have worked with UML, BPMN or backlog tools, mention it plainly. Absa is a large bank, so expect the interview process to explore how you collaborate with technical and business teams, and how you handle requirements that change during delivery. Keep your CV focused on analysis and testing outcomes rather than listing every tool you have touched. A short cover note explaining why banking or financial services interests you can help. Also make sure your degree certificate is ready, because the application portal will ask for supporting documents. Take your time with the online form and double check that your contact details are correct before you submit.
