Capital Accounting Solutions is looking for a Site Safety Officer to join a mining construction project in Kathu, Northern Cape. You will play a key role in keeping construction teams safe by monitoring safety controls, conducting inspections and making sure contractors comply with site requirements. This is a fixed term, full time position suited to someone with at least 5 years of construction safety experience on mining or heavy industrial projects. About the role
As a Site Safety Officer, you will be responsible for implementing and monitoring safety requirements across all construction workfronts on a mining project in Kathu. You will work closely with the Construction Manager and Project Manager to make sure that construction activities are planned and executed with effective risk controls in place.
Your day to day will involve conducting routine inspections, observations and critical control verifications. You will review work activities, risk assessments, method statements and permits before work begins. When you spot unsafe conditions or behaviours, you will intervene, stop work if necessary and escalate issues where critical controls are missing or not understood.
You will also support incident notification, investigation and action management, and help with learning and trend analysis. Keeping accurate safety records, registers, statistics and reports will be an important part of your role to support site and project governance.

Requirements
- National Diploma, BTech, bachelor's degree or recognised qualification in Safety Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering or a related discipline
- Minimum 5 years of relevant construction safety experience on mining, infrastructure or heavy industrial projects, including substantial site based experience
- Demonstrated experience in contractor oversight, critical control verification, incident management and legal compliance
- Professional registration with SACPCMP as a Construction Health and Safety Officer or equivalent recognised body would be an advantage
- Previous owner team or EPCM site safety experience is preferred
- Experience on iron ore, mining infrastructure, materials handling, civil, electrical or mechanical construction projects is preferred
- Formal incident investigation, auditing or emergency management qualification is preferred
- A degree or postgraduate qualification in Safety, Risk or Project Management is preferred

- Provide independent assurance that construction activities are planned and executed with effective risk controls
- Support the Construction Manager and Project Manager with safety related matters
- Identify unsafe conditions and behaviours and intervene where controls are ineffective
- Verify corrective actions and ensure they are closed out effectively
