Overview

IQbusiness is looking for senior Systems Analysts for contract roles in the financial services sector, focusing on payments projects. You will work on cross-border payments, real-time payments, SWIFT, RTGS, and ISO20022 initiatives, translating complex business requirements into detailed technical specifications. This is a highly technical role for analysts who can model system designs and work across banking and payments transformation.

About the role

Join IQbusiness as a Senior Systems Analyst on a contract basis, working within the financial services sector on payments-related projects. You will be part of banking and payments transformation initiatives, including cross-border payments, real-time payments, card-based transactions, SWIFT, RTGS, and ISO20022. The role supports both Run the Bank and Change the Bank projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Analyse, design, and document solutions for complex systems enhancements and integrations across multiple platforms and teams.
  • Lead functional and system design sessions to produce detailed specifications.
  • Work closely with developers, architects, QA, and business stakeholders to ensure alignment on requirements and solutions.
  • Design and update integration messages (web services, APIs, XML schemas, flat files) and assist with database analysis using SQL.
  • Model system designs using UML 2.5 (use case, activity, sequence, component, and interface diagrams).
  • Translate business needs into actionable system-level requirements and co-create specifications when needed.
  • Mentor and guide other analysts, fostering a high-performance, knowledge-sharing culture.
  • Participate in Agile delivery (Scrum, SAFe, or similar) and support production releases.

Please note: As all iqbusiness roles require honesty in the handling of or access to cash, finances, financial systems, or confidential information, the recruitment process requires background checks: credit, criminal, ID, and qualification verification.

Requirements

  • 6+ years experience as a Systems Analyst, ideally within financial services.
  • Hands-on experience in Payments or Forex domain projects, including cross-border, real-time, and card-based transactions.
  • Strong understanding of payment infrastructures and rails, including SWIFT, ISO20022 messaging standards (PAIN, PACS, CAMT), legacy SWIFT MT series, SAMOS, and RTGS.
  • Familiarity with SARB/Finsurv systems, regulatory reporting, Balance of Payments, exchange controls, and Payments Modernisation initiatives.
  • Experience with integration design, API specifications, SQL, and UML system modelling.
  • Confident in end-to-end project analysis, from requirements gathering to production handover.
  • Strong stakeholder management across business, technology, QA, and architecture teams.
  • Familiarity with tools and frameworks such as JIRA, Confluence, ARIS, and UML modelling tools.
  • Matric (required).
  • Relevant tertiary qualification (Degree or Diploma) and/or CBAP certification.

Success Guide

If you are a seasoned Systems Analyst with a passion for payments, this contract role at IQbusiness offers a chance to work on major banking transformation projects. Make sure your CV clearly highlights your experience with SWIFT, ISO20022, and specific payment rails like RTGS. In interviews, be ready to discuss how you have translated complex business requirements into technical specifications and how you have managed stakeholders across business and IT. Emphasise your ability to model systems using UML and your hands-on work with APIs and SQL. Since the role requires background checks, have your ID and qualification documents ready early. Good luck!
