A global non-profit is hiring a Senior Software Engineer who codes with AI tools like Cursor and Claude Code daily. You will build open source digital climate services while working fully remote across international time zones. Join a global non-profit as a Senior Software Engineer and help ship digital climate services and tools at a pace that matches the urgency of the climate crisis. All work is done in the open, shared freely with the world to maximize impact.
You will work across frontend and backend, architect cloud-native systems, integrate open source components, deploy to cloud services, and collaborate with peers in design, data engineering, product management, and DevOps. AI-assisted development is core to the role. You should be comfortable using tools like Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, or similar every day to write, review, debug, and refactor code faster and at higher quality.
The role is fully remote and international, so you will need schedule flexibility to overlap with U.S., Latin American, and European time zones, including core hours from 8am to 11am PST.

Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical pursuit, or 6+ years of on-the-job experience as a Software Developer
- 6+ years of work experience as a Software Developer
- 3+ years of shipped projects or products
- Daily proficiency with at least one AI coding tool such as Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, Windsurf, or AWS Kiro
- Ability to write effective prompts and context for AI tools to get high-quality output
- Good judgment on when AI output is correct, when it needs editing, and when to write code manually
- Experience crafting project rules, system prompts, or custom instructions for AI tools
- Experience using Linear for project management or similar tools like Jira
- Experience with micro-service-oriented architectures and migration from monorepo to service-oriented architecture
- Tech stack: JavaScript/TypeScript, NodeJS, ReactJS, Express, PostgreSQL and ORMs
- Experience with Docker and Docker Compose, Git, and open web standards for app interconnection such as OAuth and Webhooks
- Experience with Kubernetes and AWS
- Willingness to collaborate during overlapping core hours from 8am to 11am PST (GMT-8)
- Dedication to fighting climate change and interest in non-profit work
Responsibilities
- Write code for frontend and backend components of web applications
- Write code for data storage systems such as relational databases
- Architect systems and components of cloud-native web applications
- Identify and integrate open source software components into web applications
- Deploy custom and off-the-shelf components to cloud services
- Collaborate with Software Engineering peers and team members from Design, Data Engineering, Product Management, and DevOps
- Use AI coding tools daily to write, review, debug, and refactor code
- Write effective prompts and context for AI tools and apply good judgment to AI output
- Participate in team building and culture development activities
- Encourage and mentor Open Source contributors to projects
