Overview
A Cape Town based international tech firm needs a hands on Software Developer who can also lead technical projects. You will work with smart cards, RFID, FIDO, PKI and encryption technologies while guiding a development team. This fully remote role offers the chance to work with specialised security tech and international clients, so you need to be comfortable with US business hours and have proven coding and project oversight experience.
About the role
This is a dual role for someone who can write code and manage technical projects. You will join an established international business that works with smart cards, RFID, secure identification and advanced authentication solutions.
Day to day you will manage technical projects from planning through to delivery, coordinate developers and stakeholders, and get involved in the actual code and system architecture. You will also work directly with card encryption, PKI, FIDO authentication and related security technologies. Expect to translate business needs into technical specs, monitor progress, manage risks and keep quality and security standards high throughout the project lifecycle.
Application notes: This position is fully remote but only open to candidates based in the Western Cape. Working hours usually follow U.S. business hours, which means a later start and finish in South Africa. Some flexibility may be possible depending on project needs.
Requirements
- Strong background in software development, programming or software engineering with practical coding knowledge
- Demonstrable experience managing or overseeing technical and software development projects
- Essential working knowledge and experience with FIDO, PKI and card encryption technologies
- Sound understanding of software architecture, system integration, authentication and information security
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem solving abilities
- Good business acumen and ability to bridge the gap between technical teams and business requirements
- Excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills
- A relevant technical qualification would be advantageous, but practical knowledge and experience are key
- Must be based in the Western Cape
Responsibilities
- Manage technical projects from requirements gathering and planning through to development, testing and implementation
- Coordinate developers and technical stakeholders to ensure projects meet agreed specifications, deadlines and quality standards
- Engage directly with software code, system architecture, integrations and technical problem solving
- Work with card encryption technologies, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), FIDO authentication standards and related security solutions
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications and practical development plans
- Monitor project progress, manage risks and resolve technical challenges
- Balance technical requirements with commercial objectives, resources and project priorities
- Ensure appropriate security, testing and quality standards throughout the project lifecycle
