About the role
As a Senior Coverage Banker in Absa's Public Sector team, you will act as the strategic relationship lead for state owned enterprises, municipalities, provincial governments, public utilities and sovereign related institutions. You will deliver infrastructure, funding and treasury solutions that align with public sector objectives while driving revenue growth through origination, structuring and execution of complex financial solutions.
Working within a sector led model, you will collaborate closely with Coverage Bankers, Sub Sector Heads, Country Sector Heads and Global Sector Heads to execute sector strategies and manage priority client portfolios. You will be the recognised sector specialist, providing strategic insight into industry trends, client business models, value chains, regulatory developments and sector specific financing solutions.

Requirements
- Post graduate degree in Business, Finance, Economics or a related field (Master's degree or postgraduate qualification in Business, Commerce and Management Studies preferred)
- 12 to 18 or more years of experience in corporate or investment banking
- Proven track record in managing senior client relationships and delivering revenue growth in the Public Sector arena
- Demonstrated experience in leading complex, multi product transactions
- Experience within sector led or matrix coverage models
- Significant experience covering clients within Public Sector environments
- Demonstrated sector expertise in PFMA and MFMA, municipal finance, public procurement, sovereign risk, SOE governance and infrastructure funding
- Strong understanding of public sector governance, municipal finance and state owned enterprise funding structures
Responsibilities
- Own and actively manage relationships with a portfolio of public sector clients, serving as the primary point of contact and ensuring high quality coverage and service delivery
- Develop and execute account plans aligned with sector and country strategies while building deep understanding of client strategy, financial position and industry dynamics
- Originate and lead complex, high value transactions across corporate and structured lending, debt and equity capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, advisory, and integrated banking and treasury solutions
- Drive cross sell and integrated solutions across product partners while maintaining accountability for revenue delivery, pipeline strength and conversion rates
- Partner with Global Sector Heads, Country Sector Heads and Sub Sector Heads to translate sector strategies into client level execution plans
- Lead end to end execution of complex transactions and strategic mandates, coordinating multi product teams and providing direction to Coverage Bankers and Analysts
- Ensure all client activities align with risk appetite, credit standards and regulatory requirements while engaging senior risk stakeholders on large or complex exposures
- Lead collaboration across coverage teams, product partners, risk, legal, compliance and operations, acting as a bridge between sector leadership and execution teams
- Provide mentorship and guidance to Coverage Bankers and junior team members, building capability in financial analysis, client management and deal execution
