Overview
This is a great chance for a seasoned Project Engineer to take charge of renewable energy projects, from start to finish, in Cape Town. You will work on solar PV and battery storage, manage contracts, and deal with big clients and contractors. It is a hybrid role with flexible hours, paying R60,000 to R70,000 CTC per month. About the role
As a Senior Project Engineer, you will be at the heart of delivering commercial, industrial, and large scale renewable energy projects. You will lead projects from award through to commissioning, making sure everything runs on time and within budget. A big part of your day will involve managing relationships with EPC contractors and corporate clients, overseeing contracts like FIDIC and JBCC, and handling negotiations. You will also be on site, directing construction, coordinating with engineering teams, and making sure quality and safety standards are met. You will help with proposals, create Bills of Materials, and look for ways to improve processes. This role is with Recruitment Legends, based in Cape Town, and offers a hybrid and flexible working arrangement.
Requirements
- B.Sc, B.Eng, or B.Tech in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Strong hands on experience in project engineering and senior project management within the engineering or construction sector.
- Demonstrated expertise in Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is highly advantageous.
- Direct hands on site management and site supervision experience.
- Practical experience managing FIDIC and JBCC contracts.
- High emotional intelligence and confidence to negotiate, assert influence, and manage difficult EPC contractors and demanding client stakeholders.
- Proficient with MS365 suite.
- Experience with quoting, estimating, and compiling Bills of Materials (BOM) in the electrical sector.
- Willingness and capability to travel to remote project sites across South Africa and the Southern African region as needed.
Responsibilities
- Take full ownership and lead project delivery, timelines, site management, and contract budgets from award through commissioning.
- Interface confidently with high profile corporate clients and lead, direct, and hold accountable EPC contractors and suppliers.
- Oversee and manage standard engineering and construction contracts (including FIDIC and JBCC frameworks).
- Lead contract negotiations with suppliers to ensure optimal delivery.
- Direct on site construction oversight, coordinate with engineering teams on technical specifications, and ensure strict quality and safety compliance.
- Assist in preparing technical and financial proposals, creating Bills of Materials (BOM), project design inputs, and client presentations.
- Continuously refine contract management and project execution workflows to maximize outcomes for clients and investors.
