Overview

An established community pharmacy in the Amajuba District of northern KwaZulu-Natal is looking for an experienced Senior Pharmacist to take charge of daily operations. You will manage dispensary work, stock control, compliance with SAPC and SAHPRA standards, and lead a small team. This permanent role suits a hands-on pharmacist with strong retail experience who enjoys patient care and community service.

About the role

This is a full responsibility role for a Senior Pharmacist within a community focused retail pharmacy in the Amajuba District. You will be the go to person for the day to day running of the pharmacy, making sure everything from prescriptions to stock control is handled accurately and ethically.

Your week will involve dispensing prescriptions, counselling patients, managing scheduled medicines and general stock, keeping QCPs and quality records up to date, and making sure the pharmacy meets all SAPC, SAHPRA and Department of Health requirements. You will work on the Unisolv system, apply ICD-10 codes correctly, and support the Responsible Pharmacist when needed, including relief work during leave or busy periods.

You will also guide and work closely with pharmacy assistants and support staff, so a calm and practical leadership style goes a long way here.

Success Guide

When you apply for this Senior Pharmacist role, make sure your CV clearly shows your SAPC registration number and your retail pharmacy experience. They specifically want retail experience, not hospital, so highlight your community pharmacy background and any Unisolv or ICD-10 work you have done.

You should also mention your leadership experience with assistants and your familiarity with QCPs and SAPC audits. If you are applying from outside Newcastle, be upfront about your willingness to relocate. In the interview, expect questions about how you handle stock control, schedule medicines and patient counselling. A calm, practical example of how you managed a busy dispensary or an audit will go a long way.
