About the role
As a Senior Occupational Health Nurse at Netcare Seriti in Middleburg, you will take charge of the occupational health services that protect and support hospital employees. The role blends hands on clinical work with policy development and team leadership.
Your typical week will involve conducting pre employment medicals, health surveillance and fitness for work assessments for staff across different departments. You will manage workplace injuries from first aid through to return to work planning, and run health education sessions on topics like ergonomics, stress and infection prevention. You will also work closely with HR, safety officers and department heads to spot and reduce health risks in the hospital environment.
Part of the job is keeping accurate confidential health records, advising management on legislative changes and mentoring junior occupational health staff. You will sit on health and safety committees and respond to emergencies when they arise.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse with current SANC registration
- Post basic qualification in Occupational Health Nursing Science
- Minimum 5 to 7 years experience as an Occupational Health Nurse, including at least 2 years in a senior or leadership role
- Certification in audiometry and spirometry is essential
- Valid dispensing license is desirable
- Sound knowledge of South African occupational health legislation and regulations
- Excellent clinical assessment, diagnostic and treatment skills
- Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and occupational health management systems
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and evaluate occupational health policies, procedures and programmes aligned to Netcare strategy and regulations
- Conduct pre employment medicals, health surveillance and fitness for work assessments
- Manage and investigate workplace injuries and illnesses, including first aid, treatment coordination and return to work programmes
- Provide health education on ergonomics, stress management, infectious disease prevention and general wellness
- Collaborate with HR, safety officers and department heads to identify and mitigate occupational health risks
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee health records in line with data protection rules
- Advise management on occupational health trends, legislative changes and best practices
- Lead and mentor junior occupational health staff
- Participate in health and safety committee meetings
- Respond to occupational health emergencies and provide medical intervention
