Overview
Endless Summer Technologies is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Durban to lead innovative product design from concept through to production. You will work independently on complex mechanical designs, prototyping, testing and project management. This is a permanent full time role for an experienced engineer with at least 5 years in consumer product design and strong 3D CAD skills. About the role
Endless Summer Technologies is seeking a permanent Senior Mechanical Engineer to work independently on innovative complex mechanical design and development for new products. You will take products from conception through to production release and also design improvements for existing products.
In this role you will be responsible for the successful completion of design, testing, specification, documentation, and qualification of products throughout the project lifecycle. You will establish and meet targeted project timelines, cost and quality objectives.
You will collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers, manage projects from concept to completion, and ensure products meet specifications and quality standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years experience in mechanical design engineering within consumer product design
- Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD systems with productive skill sets to meet all facets of design
- Advanced knowledge of material science with primary disciplines in plastic injection molding, die casting and sheet metal fabrication and processes
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external contacts
- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to manage more complex projects from concept to completion
Responsibilities
- Creates innovative new product designs from new product concepts through development and initial production
- Constructs and maintains new product timelines including required external resources
- Designs and develops improvements to existing products
- Performs prototype design experimentation rapid prototype and conventional prototype fabrication
- Evaluates prototype designs for performance and reliability
- Writes product specifications and provides prints documentation and testing verification methods
- Conducts and documents technical feasibility evaluations qualifications field and competitive testing
- Formulates development unit and tooling cost estimates
- Performs advanced troubleshooting of mechanical design issues during development and after production start
- Collaborates with various internal teams to resolve issues and ensure quality product development
- Produces project documentation including prints engineering files supplier communications and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
- Manages a variety of moderately complex to complex projects from concept design and through completion
