A diverse consulting firm is urgently hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer with 5+ years in building services and 2+ years post registration. You will lead HVAC focused mechanical projects across Data Centres, Clean Rooms, Advanced Manufacturing and Healthcare facilities. This permanent full time role is open to candidates in Western Cape or Gauteng (Midrand and JHB). Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng registration is required. About the role
Join a consulting firm that is part of a global group and play a key role in strengthening their mechanical engineering offering. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will manage projects from inception to closeout, working independently on complex or high value builds. Your day to day will focus on HVAC design, including air conditioning heat load and ventilation calculations, equipment specification and approval, and construction monitoring. You will also use your technical expertise to solve engineering problems, prepare tender documentation and Bills of Quantities, and oversee contractor and contract management within the mechanical discipline.
You will lead and mentor a team of engineers and modellers, ensuring quality, budget and schedule targets are met. Client care is important here, so you will build strong relationships and deliver tailored solutions. The role also includes site supervision, QA/QC throughout project stages, and troubleshooting existing installations. Digital capability is key, with Revit, AutoCAD, HAP, Loadest, IES and Autodesk Construction Cloud used to improve project delivery. You will model SHEQ standards and contribute to a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- B Eng, BSc Eng or B Tech Eng degree in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering
- Minimum 5 years post graduation experience in building services consulting
- Minimum 2 years post registration experience
- Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng professional registration is a requirement
- Experience in HVAC design, including heat load and ventilation calculations
- Experience with construction monitoring in Data Centres, Clean Rooms, Advanced Manufacturing, or Healthcare Facilities
- Basic understanding and working knowledge of Revit
- Good understanding and ability to navigate document management systems such as Autodesk ACC and Autodesk Forma
- Knowledge of SANS, with exposure to British Standards and ASHRAE advantageous
- Experience in Medical Gases, Mechanical Utilities, Wet Services, Fuel System Design, Vertical Transportation or Fire Engineering is highly advantageous
- Proven ability to manage, lead and mentor teams
- Strong communication and technical report writing skills
Responsibilities
- Manage mechanical projects from inception to closeout, working independently on complex or high value builds
- Perform HVAC design, including air conditioning heat load and ventilation calculations in line with local and international standards
- Specify, approve and oversee specialist equipment installation
- Use HVAC design software (HAP, Loadest, IES), BIM tools (Revit, ACC) and psychrometric analysis for project delivery
- Prepare tender documentation, manage tender processes and formulate Bills of Quantities
- Oversee contractor and contract management within the mechanical discipline
- Lead, mentor and coordinate teams of engineers and modellers, tracking outputs and resources
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, delivering tailored solutions
- Ensure QA/QC across project stages and provide site supervision and troubleshooting
- Model SHEQ standards and drive Zero Harm processes
