Standard Bank is looking for a Senior Legal Advisor to support its Global Markets division in Johannesburg. About the role
As a Senior Legal Advisor for Global Markets at Standard Bank, you will play a key role in helping the bank meet its legal objectives. You will give legal advice on complex matters and make sure everything aligns with the bank's standards and legal requirements.
Your day to day work will include:
- Helping to develop and implement internal controls, policies, and guidelines for the legal function and the Global Markets area.
- Making sure these controls align with both functional goals and statutory requirements.
- Working with local client contracts and legal standards to provide input on bespoke contracts and deliver legal services where needed.
- Following data security standards and making sure local data regulations are met.
- Applying and improving group minimum standards for vendor selection, and choosing vendors with the right expertise to ensure quality work.
- Building strong relationships with internal teams to break down silos and support business growth, and with external stakeholders to maintain useful networks.

Requirements
- A first degree in Legal (LLB or equivalent).
- Experience providing legal advice on complex matters, ideally within banking or financial services.
- Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements relevant to Global Markets.
- Ability to work with internal controls, policies, and guidelines.
- Strong stakeholder relationship building skills.
- Understanding of data security and local data regulations.
- Experience with vendor selection and management is advantageous.
- Excellent communication and analytical skills.
