Optim-G is looking for a skilled Senior Virtualization and Windows OS Engineer to lead their IT team in Pretoria. This contract role focuses on designing and managing Hyper-V, VMware, and Windows Server environments, with hybrid work after training. Ideal for a certified professional with 5+ years of experience in virtualization, clustering, and Azure. You will work on high availability, performance tuning, and cloud infrastructure, with alternate weekend shifts and compensatory days off.
About the role
Optim-G is seeking a highly skilled Senior Virtualization & Windows OS Engineer to join their IT team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing virtualization platforms and Windows server environments across on-premises and cloud infrastructure.
You will work with Microsoft Hyper-V, VMware, Windows Server, and Microsoft Azure, focusing on high availability, performance optimization, and security. The position is based in Pretoria CBD with a hybrid working model after successful onboarding and training. Working hours are 08:30 to 17:00, Monday to Friday, with alternate weekend work (Saturday and Sunday) and the following Monday and Tuesday off.
This is a contract position with the possibility to extend.
Requirements
- Matric (Grade 12)
- Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP)
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) for Windows Server (2012 R2, 2016, 2019, 2022, 2025)
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
- HPE server and storage certifications (advantageous)
- 5+ years experience in Windows Server Operating Systems
- 5+ years experience in Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware virtualization
- 5+ years experience in Microsoft Failover Clustering
- 2+ years experience working with Microsoft Azure
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Advantageous: HPE Synergy Server hardware, HPE Alletra Storage, HPE GreenLake Cloud, Oracle PCA and ZFS Storage, Oracle Linux (7.9 and 8.10)
Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and manage virtual environments using Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware
- Create, configure, migrate, and maintain virtual machines
- Manage and optimize virtual networks and storage
- Install, configure, and maintain Windows Server environments
- Perform patching, upgrades, and system health checks
- Ensure server security and compliance standards are met
- Implement and manage Microsoft Failover Clusters
- Ensure high availability and business continuity
- Configure cluster storage and networking
- Deploy and manage Azure IaaS environments
- Configure virtual networks and cloud-based infrastructure
- Monitor and maintain Azure server security and performance
- Conduct in-depth analysis of server performance
- Identify bottlenecks and implement optimization strategies
- Monitor capacity and recommend improvements
