About the role
Are you a South African design engineer ready to take your career to Belgium? Our client, a leading Belgian manufacturer of electromechanical hardware, is looking for a Senior Design Engineer to take ownership of products from concept through to first production run.
In this role, you will be at the heart of product innovation, working closely with the product manager and fellow designers. You will design and improve electromechanical and electronic products, brainstorm concepts, create CAD designs, build prototypes and follow up on testing. You will also work with manufacturers on design for manufacturing and assembly (DFM/DFA), drive technical execution from start to finish and coach junior designers.
This is a permanent position based in Belgium, and 3 Hands Europe will guide you through the entire relocation process, including visas for you and your family, housing, banking, registration and schools. They specialise in helping South Africans build successful futures in Belgium.
Requirements
- Industrial engineering degree or equivalent through experience
- At least 8 years of business experience, with several years in product design
- Experience with 3D CAD software, ideally SolidWorks
- Strong project management skills, delivering on target and on budget
- Team player with a can do attitude
- Fluent in Afrikaans and good English, willing to learn Dutch
- Willing to relocate to Belgium
Responsibilities
- Design and improve electromechanical and electronic products
- Brainstorm concepts, create CAD designs, build prototypes and follow up on testing
- Work with manufacturers and production teams on DFM and DFA
- Drive the full technical execution of projects from start to finish alongside the product manager
- Coach fellow designers and share expertise
- Report to the R&D Manager
