About the role
DeARX Services is looking for experienced Senior Data Engineers to join a growing technical team working with a client in the banking sector. You will be based in Stellenbosch and will focus on building and improving modern cloud data platforms. This is a hands-on role where you spend most of your time writing code, designing data pipelines, and solving real engineering problems.
What the day to day looks like:
- Designing, building and optimising scalable data pipelines and cloud based data platforms
- Writing advanced Python and SQL to build complex ETL and ELT processes
- Developing and maintaining data engineering solutions on AWS
- Building frameworks for data integration, ingestion and processing
- Working with large datasets and distributed processing technologies
- Contributing to CI/CD pipelines and automation of deployments
- Putting data quality, monitoring and performance optimisation into practice
- Collaborating with architects, developers and other technical stakeholders

Requirements
- Proven experience in a hands-on Data Engineering role
- Strong practical Python development skills, with experience writing and maintaining production code
- Advanced SQL skills, including complex queries and data transformations
- Practical experience building and managing data pipelines
- Hands on experience with AWS cloud data technologies
- Experience with ETL and ELT processes and modern data platforms
- Understanding of CI/CD, automation and the software development lifecycle
- Experience working with large scale data environments and distributed processing
- Advantageous: exposure to Apache Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, banking or financial services, and Salesforce Data Cloud (especially for senior candidates)
