About the role
Innovazi Consulting is looking for an experienced Senior Credit Analyst to join a growing finance team in Johannesburg. You will take ownership of complex commercial and asset finance transactions from application through to recommendation, with the confidence to make independent credit decisions and defend them to approving authorities.
What the role involves:
- Analysing complex commercial credit applications, financial statements, management accounts, cash flows, bank statements and debt schedules
- Assessing affordability, repayment capacity, liquidity, gearing and overall creditworthiness
- Structuring deals by recommending deposits, repayment terms, security requirements, pricing and risk mitigation
- Evaluating asset values, marketability, recovery prospects and security enforceability
- Preparing comprehensive credit reports with clear approval, decline or conditional recommendations
- Monitoring portfolios, identifying early warning signs and recommending interventions or restructures
- Reviewing work from junior analysts and providing technical guidance and coaching
Important application note: Only candidates with a relevant finance, accounting, economics or risk management qualification and at least 5 years of credit analysis experience will be considered. Experience in asset finance, equipment finance, commercial lending or structured finance is key.
Requirements
- Relevant degree or qualification in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Risk Management or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of credit analysis experience, including complex commercial transactions
- Experience in asset finance, equipment finance, commercial lending, structured finance or specialist finance
- Strong financial statement analysis and cash flow modelling skills
- Affordability and debt servicing assessment experience
- Asset backed lending and security evaluation knowledge
- Deal structuring and profitability analysis ability
- Credit report preparation and recommendation writing skills
- Experience presenting to credit committees or approving authorities
- Portfolio monitoring and credit risk management experience
- Compliance knowledge including FICA and relevant lending regulations
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with credit workflow or CRM systems
- Strong independent credit judgement and commercial decision making
- Excellent analytical and problem solving abilities
- Strong communication and report writing skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple transactions simultaneously

Responsibilities
- Analyse complex commercial credit applications and funding transactions
- Assess financial statements, management accounts, cash flows, bank statements and debt schedules
- Evaluate affordability, repayment capacity, liquidity, gearing, working capital and creditworthiness
- Identify key credit risks and warning signs in transactions
- Structure transactions by recommending deposits, repayment terms, security, pricing and risk mitigation
- Evaluate profitability and return on risk for each deal
- Assess asset values, marketability, recovery prospects and security enforceability
- Review security structures, sureties, guarantees and collateral arrangements
- Prepare comprehensive credit reports with clear recommendations
- Present and defend recommendations to management and approving authorities
- Make approval, decline or conditional approval recommendations based on thorough analysis
- Monitor existing portfolios and identify emerging risks, arrears and early warning indicators
- Recommend interventions, restructures or recovery actions where appropriate
- Review work prepared by junior analysts and provide technical guidance and coaching
- Assist in improving credit processes, reporting standards and assessment methodologies
