A leading multidisciplinary engineering firm in Centurion is looking for a Senior Civil Engineering Technologist specialising in structural engineering. You will lead complex projects across industries like steel, PGM, nuclear and energy, mentor junior staff and manage construction. About the role
Our client is a leading multidisciplinary engineering firm delivering advanced solutions across South Africa and internationally, with projects in ferroalloy, steel, PGM, nuclear, energy, industrial and pulp and paper sectors. They are seeking a Senior Civil Engineering Technologist to join their Civil Engineering Department in Centurion, Gauteng.
In this office-based role, you will specialise in structural engineering and take responsibility for project planning, design and construction management. You will provide technical leadership across multiple projects, set technical standards, lead complex projects and serve as the primary technical contact for key clients. You will also contribute to strategic planning and deliver safe, cost effective, code compliant structural designs.
The position requires a combination of strong technical design skills, practical construction oversight experience, excellent project management and the ability to mentor junior staff and support business growth. You will work on high value feasibility studies, concept designs, structural analysis and design using software such as Prokon, Autodesk Robot, Idea Statica, AutoCAD, Tekla Structures and Revit. You will also manage project financials, coordinate external consultants, lead site technical teams, ensure quality assurance and regulatory compliance, and stay updated on industry trends.

Requirements
- Certificate or Diploma in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline (Degree not required)
- ECSA Professional registration required
- Valid driver's license
- Eight (8) years or more of relevant structural engineering experience
- Excellent knowledge of engineering principles, practices and codes
- Proven track record leading complex structural projects, multi discipline teams and major client engagements
- Proficiency in Prokon Analysis Software
- Proficiency in Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis
- Proficiency in Idea Statica for Structural Steel Connections
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for 2D drawing
- Proficiency in Tekla Structures for 3D modelling and fabrication drawings
- Proficiency in Autodesk Revit
Responsibilities
- Lead complex and high value feasibility studies, concept designs and performance based design initiatives
- Prepare clear, accurate structural drawings, specifications and technical reports for permitting, tendering and construction
- Perform structural analysis and design using hand calculations, finite element analysis and frame modelling
- Provide design alternatives and optimisation addressing durability, constructability, lifecycle cost and sustainability
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and stakeholders to ensure integrated designs
- Provide technical expertise and guidance on complex engineering issues
- Provide final technical sign off on design deliverables and review high risk calculations
- Manage multiple projects or large multi discipline projects concurrently as Project Engineer or Technical Lead
- Oversee project financials, risk registers and client escalations
- Lead site technical teams during critical construction phases, complex installations or dispute resolution
- Establish and enforce QA/QC processes for the structural group and lead independent technical checks
- Lead statutory liaison for complex approvals and act as named responsible engineer for regulatory submissions
- Stay updated on industry trends, technologies and regulations related to civil and structural engineering
- Provide on the job mentoring and formal training to junior and mid level engineers
- Lead technical input on major bids and pursuit strategies and develop strategic client relationships
