About the role
Our client needs a Sales Engineer who can take charge of the technical and commercial side of large industrial cooling projects. This is a role for someone who enjoys both engineering and people, and who can walk a client through a technical solution from first enquiry to final handover.
You will spend your days reviewing specifications, sizing cooling towers using thermal selection tools, working with design engineers on layouts and plume or noise requirements, and building cost estimates with the estimating and procurement teams. You will also be in front of clients, visiting mines, power stations and process plants to survey existing plant and scope upgrades.
The work does not stop at the sale. You will stay involved as the technical contact through the project, supporting the team on variations, performance testing and any warranty or defect claims. Your feedback from site helps improve future selections and proposals.

Requirements
- A degree or national diploma in mechanical, chemical or process engineering (or an equivalent technical qualification)
- At least three years of experience in technical sales, application engineering or design in cooling systems, heat exchangers, HVAC, water treatment or a related industrial thermal field
- A working understanding of cooling tower thermodynamics, including range, approach, wet bulb, L/G ratio, evaporation, drift, blowdown and cycles of concentration
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and client specifications, and to review a bid document and spot risks such as performance guarantees, liquidated damages, bonds and payment terms
- Strong written and spoken English because proposals and clarifications go out under the company name and must be correct
- A valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to site, including mines and industrial plants in remote areas
Responsibilities
- Review client enquiries and specifications, and confirm that the specifications are complete and realistic
- Select and size NDCT, IDCT, counterflow and crossflow cooling towers using thermal selection tools
- Collaborate with design engineering on structure, layout, basin, access and plume or noise requirements
- Prepare technical and commercial proposals, compliance schedules and clarification responses for tenders and direct enquiries
- Build cost estimates with the estimating and procurement teams
- Negotiate scope, price and commercial terms within approved limits
- Manage and grow relationships with mines, power stations, process plants, EPC and EPCM contractors, consulting engineers and facilities managers
- Visit client sites to survey existing plant, assess condition and scope refurbishments or upgrades
- Track competitors, pricing and projects in the market
- Hand orders to the project team with a clear scope, drawings and commercial terms
- Act as technical contact throughout the project and support the team on variations, performance testing and warranty or defect claims
- Collect feedback from site and clients to improve selections and proposals
