About the role
Netcare Alberlito Hospital is looking for a Registered Nurse with ICU experience to join their team in Tongaat. As a Professional Nurse, you will be responsible for assessing, planning and implementing individualised, holistic and person centred nursing care for patients and their families.
What you will do:
- Provide advanced nursing care in a specialised ICU field according to standard nursing procedures and medical direction
- Coordinate patient care within the multidisciplinary health team
- Act as a patient advocate and maintain communication with families and health professionals
- Initiate and maintain emergency treatment when needed
- Evaluate patient needs and develop individualised nursing care plans
- Participate in ward rounds with medical practitioners
- Ensure a safe, clean and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors
- Mentor and support nursing staff and students
- Allocate staff to promote optimal patient care
Requirements
- Registered as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council
- Thorough knowledge of general and specialised nursing theory and practice
- Extensive knowledge of modern nursing care principles and practices
- ICU experience is essential
Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement and document nursing care in the ICU unit
- Serve as a clinical resource for personnel
- Communicate with families and health professionals regarding patient care
- Coordinate patient care within the multidisciplinary team
- Initiate and maintain emergency treatment including RESUS
- Interview patients and families to identify problems and needs
- Do rounds with physicians to review patient conditions
- Evaluate patient care needs and initiate individualised care plans
- Prepare day and night shift documentation
- Assist with policy and procedure development
- Ensure quality and risk management
- Participate in in service training and orientation of new staff
- Allocate staff according to acuity levels
- Maintain professional development and stay updated with policies
