Overview

Absa is looking for a Regional Manager to lead their fleet management and vehicle leasing division in Johannesburg. You will drive business growth, manage a team of consultants, and build strong customer relationships across Corporate, SME and Public Sector markets. This is a senior leadership role for someone with a solid sales and relationship management background in fleet or leasing.

About the role

As Regional Manager for Absa Vehicle Management Solutions (AVMS), you will take charge of regional growth and protect the value of an existing customer portfolio. Your focus will be evenly split between winning new business and keeping customers happy, all while leading a team of Business Development and Customer Relationship Consultants.

You will translate the AVMS strategy into a regional sales plan, build a pipeline across Corporate, SME and Public Sector markets, and lead your team through the full sales cycle from needs analysis to closing deals. You will also own the health and growth of the regional customer portfolio, running structured engagement models and identifying cross sell and upsell opportunities to increase share of wallet.

Your role includes coaching and performance managing your team, maintaining disciplined management rhythms around pipeline and forecasts, and working closely with internal teams in Credit, Risk, Product, Operations and Finance to deliver integrated customer solutions. You will ensure compliance with Absa policies and POPIA, and represent the voice of the customer in service improvement forums.

How to apply: Apply online through Absa's official careers website. You will be redirected to the bank's own system to complete your application.

Requirements

  • A Bachelors Degree and Professional Qualifications in Business, Commerce and Management Studies is required.
  • Proven experience in a senior sales or business development leadership role, preferably in fleet management, vehicle leasing, or financial services.
  • Strong track record in business acquisition, customer relationship management, and portfolio growth.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach and performance manage a team of sales or relationship consultants.
  • Solid commercial acumen with experience managing revenue, profitability and pricing within approved parameters.
  • Knowledge of credit, risk and compliance frameworks relevant to asset finance or leasing.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, able to coordinate across credit, risk, product, operations and legal teams.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and disciplined management reporting practices.
  • Understanding of POPIA and regulatory requirements in the financial services sector.
  • Strong negotiation and consultative selling skills.

Responsibilities

  • Translate AVMS strategy into a regional sales and customer growth plan with clear segment, production and revenue priorities.
  • Build and maintain a balanced pipeline across Corporate, SME and Public Sector markets through proactive prospecting, networking and strategic partnerships.
  • Lead the team through the full sales lifecycle including needs analysis, solution design, pricing, proposal development, negotiation and closure.
  • Achieve regional new business production, revenue, margin and market share objectives within approved pricing and risk parameters.
  • Own the health and growth of the regional customer portfolio, implementing structured engagement models and regular business reviews.
  • Identify and convert cross sell, upsell, renewal and fleet expansion opportunities across AVMS products and services.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction, complaints and early warning indicators, coordinating timely service recovery to prevent attrition.
  • Lead, coach and performance manage a regional team of consultants, setting targets and maintaining disciplined management rhythms.
  • Coordinate Credit, Risk, Product, Operations, Finance and Legal stakeholders to deliver integrated customer solutions.
  • Ensure adherence to Absa policies, sales governance and regulatory requirements, managing customer information in accordance with POPIA.

Success Guide

This is a senior role at one of South Africa's biggest banks, so your application needs to show more than just sales numbers. Absa is looking for someone who can lead a team, manage risk, and keep customers happy at the same time. Tailor your CV to highlight any experience you have in fleet management, leasing, or asset finance, and make sure you give clear examples of how you grew a portfolio or led a team to hit targets.

In the interview, expect questions about how you balance new business with customer retention, and how you handle underperformance in a team. Familiarise yourself with the AVMS offering and think about how you would approach the Corporate, SME and Public Sector markets differently. Absa values diversity and inclusion, so feel free to bring your whole self to the process. Good luck!
