Overview

Lead the full HR and industrial relations function for a heavy equipment and mining group across South Africa, Botswana and Zambia, supporting around 1000 employees. This hands-on regional HR Manager role is based in Midrand and requires regular travel, strong union experience, MIBCO knowledge and hands-on Sage 300 skills.

About the role

This is a senior regional HR role for an experienced HR Manager who enjoys being visible on site and working closely with people at all levels. You will take charge of the HR and industrial relations function across South Africa, Botswana and Zambia, supporting roughly 1000 employees spread over multiple locations.

The role is hands-on and requires regular travel. You can expect to engage directly with employees, union representatives and management, while leading a small HR team made up of two direct reports and one indirect report.

A major focus will be the effective use and administration of Sage 300 as the regional HRIS, keeping employee data accurate and ensuring reliable HR reporting for management. You will also help drive HR process improvements and work closely with Finance, Payroll and operational managers.

Application note: This position is advertised through The Recruiters. Use the reference MW241026-4474 when you apply and make sure your CV clearly shows your cross-border, mining or automotive, unionised and Sage 300 experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR Management or a related field
  • 8 or more years of HR experience, including at least 3 years in a management role
  • Strong labour relations, negotiation and dispute resolution expertise
  • Hands-on Sage 300 experience
  • Experience in mining and or the motor industry, within a unionised environment
  • MIBCO knowledge and exposure to Botswana or Zambia would be advantageous
  • Excellent communication, leadership and problem solving skills
  • Ability to travel frequently

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HR strategies that align with business objectives
  • Oversee recruitment, performance management, employee engagement and retention
  • Lead industrial relations, union negotiations, grievances and disciplinary matters
  • Manage CCMA and MIBCO proceedings
  • Ensure compliance with labour legislation and collective agreements
  • Administer Sage 300 HRIS, workforce reporting and employee data integrity
  • Drive HR process optimisation and collaborate with Finance, Payroll and operational management
  • Lead and develop the regional HR team

Success Guide

This is a big step up role, so your CV needs to do more than list HR duties. Make it easy for the recruiter to spot three things: your hands-on Sage 300 work, your experience in a unionised mining or motor environment, and any exposure to MIBCO or cross-border work in Botswana or Zambia. Give real examples of union negotiations, CCMA cases or disciplinary processes you have handled, and mention the number of employees and sites you supported. Because this role covers three countries and around 1000 people, show that you are comfortable travelling and working on site, not just from an office. In interviews, expect questions about how you keep employee data accurate in Sage 300, how you manage relationships with unions, and how you lead a small HR team across distances. Keep your reference number MW241026-4474 visible in your application.
