Overview
A chemical manufacturer near Piet Retief is looking for an experienced Quality Controller to run their lab and quality function. You will monitor raw materials, water, in process production and finished products, supervise lab staff and keep everything compliant with ISO and safety standards. This is a permanent, full time role for someone with a Chemistry degree, at least 3 years in an industrial chemical plant and 3 years supervising a team.
About the role
This is a hands on Quality Control role inside an industrial chemical manufacturing plant near Piet Retief. You will take charge of the Quality Control function and make sure that raw materials, water, in process production and finished goods all meet the agreed specifications.
What the day to day looks like:
- Monitoring raw materials, water quality and finished products against specifications
- Analysing in process and final product parameters and investigating deviations
- Recommending process adjustments to the Production team
- Conducting liquor analysis and advising on the manufacture of adhesives and speciality products
- Supervising and guiding laboratory personnel and coordinating lab activities
- Overseeing the safe handling of hazardous chemicals on site
- Keeping the lab aligned with ISO standards, quality management systems and OHS requirements

Requirements
- Grade 12 or Matric with Core Mathematics and Science
- Degree in Chemistry
- Minimum 3 years experience in an industrial chemical operation
- Minimum 3 years experience supervising a team
- Minimum 3 years exposure to Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Proficiency in other Microsoft 365 applications
- Basic understanding of the Windows operating system, internet navigation and online research
Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for the overall Quality Control function within the factory
- Monitor raw materials, water quality and finished products to ensure compliance with required specifications
- Analyse and monitor in process and final product parameters
- Identify quality deviations and recommend appropriate process adjustments to Production personnel
- Conduct liquor analysis and provide recommendations for the manufacture of adhesives, speciality products and other chemical products
- Ensure quality control activities are performed accurately and consistently
- Supervise laboratory personnel and ensure effective team performance
- Coordinate laboratory activities to support production and quality requirements
- Provide guidance and oversight to laboratory staff
- Oversee the safe management of hazardous chemicals on site
- Ensure compliance with production and workplace safety procedures
- Maintain adherence to applicable ISO standards and Quality Management Systems
- Support Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety requirements within the manufacturing environment
