Overview

A well established oil seed extraction and processing company in Limpopo is looking for a qualified Boilermaker with 3 to 5 years of hands on experience. You will lay out, fit and fabricate metal components, build conveyors and platforms, and work with cutting torches, TIG, stick and MIG welding. If you have a Boilermaker trade, your own transport and a sharp eye for detail, this full time role offers solid plant based work in a growing agricultural processing environment.

About the role

This role is based at an oil seed extraction and processing plant in Limpopo. You will be responsible for laying out, fitting and fabricating metal components, and assembling structural forms such as conveyors, platforms, structures and trolleys according to engineering drawings.

Your day to day work will involve cutting torches, TIG, stick and MIG welding, surface preparation before welding, and building jigs with close tolerances. You will also construct, assemble, maintain and repair structural forms based on blueprints or verbal instructions, and carry out inspections on completed work.

The main focus of this position is development and fabrication, so you will regularly work on shapes and equipment such as square to round and lobster back designs.

Important application note: The advert does not list a specific application email or online form. Use the Apply Now option on the job board where this listing appears, and make sure your CV clearly shows your Boilermaker trade, years of experience and driver's licence.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or N3
  • Boilermaker trade qualification
  • 3 to 5 years of experience as a qualified Boilermaker
  • Valid driver's licence and own transport
  • Ability to read and work according to engineering drawings
  • Ability to use hand and power tools and all measuring equipment
  • Experience with cutting torches, TIG, stick and MIG welding
  • Exposure to conveyors, boiler and steam systems will be advantageous
  • Willingness to work overtime and standby as and when required
  • Ability to fabricate shapes and equipment such as square to round and lobster back

Responsibilities

  • Build, install, maintain and repair plant equipment and systems
  • Read technical diagrams and blueprints
  • Work out the material needed to complete a work piece
  • Cut material to specification and within tolerance according to drawings
  • Bolt or arc weld structures and parts together using wrenches and welding equipment
  • Examine work pieces for defective welding, weak spots and repair all defects
  • Lay out material for construction, mark it out according to drawings and specified tolerances
  • Locate and mark reference points for columns or plates using straight edges, squares and measuring equipment
  • Cut material to size using hand tools, cutting torch or saws
  • Perform proper welding once all parts have been tacked together and fitted to specification
  • Repair and maintain all mechanical equipment
  • Handle and move objects by using hands and arms to install, position and move material
  • Inspect equipment, structures or materials to identify errors or defects and monitor information to detect problems
  • Perform physical activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking and stooping while handling materials

Success Guide

Before you apply, make sure your CV clearly shows your Boilermaker trade certificate and the exact number of years you have worked as a qualified Boilermaker. The employer is looking for 3 to 5 years, so list your experience with specific equipment, conveyors or steam systems if you have it.

Because own transport and a valid driver's licence are required, mention these early in your CV or cover letter. If you have examples of fabrication work such as square to round or lobster back shapes, be ready to talk about them in an interview or show photos if you have them. This is a hands on plant role, so employers will want to hear about safety awareness, your ability to read drawings, and your willingness to do overtime and standby.
