A professional accounting and auditing firm in Benoni needs a temp Professional Accountant (SA) to manage a portfolio of clients across individuals, trusts, companies and close corporations. About the role
This temporary position is with a professional accounting and auditing company based in Benoni. You will take responsibility for a portfolio of clients, including individuals, trusts, companies and close corporations. Your day to day will involve planning engagements, preparing and processing accounting records from source documents, doing balance sheet reconciliations, and drafting financial statements in line with IFRS and IFRS for SMEs.
You will also handle tax computations for companies, close corporations and trusts, prepare and submit statutory returns such as VAT 201, EMP 201, EMP501 and return of earnings, and manage work in progress and budgets on engagements. There is a mentoring aspect where you guide junior staff, and you will update directors on engagement progress. Client communication is key, from making engagement arrangements to discussing results and attending to tax queries.
This role requires fluent English and Afrikaans, a BCom in Financial Accounting and Tax as majors, completed SAIPA or SAICA articles, and 8 to 10 years of experience in a similar position. You will need your own vehicle and valid driver's license as client and SARS visits may be required. AA travel rates apply. The position is temporary and based in Benoni, with a salary of R28k ctc per month.
Requirements
- BCom in Financial Accounting with Tax as majors
- Completed SAIPA or SAICA articles (non negotiable)
- Minimum 8 to 10 years experience in a similar accounting role
- Fluent in English and Afrikaans, both written and verbal
- Working knowledge of commonly used accounting packages for reporting and ad hoc processing
- Own vehicle and valid driver's license
- Understanding of IFRS and IFRS for SMEs disclosure requirements
- Knowledge of statutory requirements like PAYE and UIF
Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of clients including individuals, trusts, companies and close corporations
- Plan engagements properly before execution and follow company SOPs at all times
- Prepare, process and maintain accounting records from source documents for multiple clients
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and process monthly general journals
- Prepare audit files and finalise accounts
- Prepare monthly management accounts and reconcile expenses monthly
- Draft and sign off financial statements according to relevant accounting disclosure requirements (IFRS and IFRS for SMEs)
- Perform tax computations for companies, close corporations and trusts, including SBCs and special allowances (s12C, s12E, etc)
- Prepare and submit statutory returns (VAT 201, EMP 201, EMP501 and return of earnings)
- Manage work in progress and budgets on engagements
- Update directors on progress of engagements
- Mentor junior staff both on the job and in general
- Assist other staff members where needed and handle tax queries in collaboration with other departments
- Seek opportunities to grow the department and client base
