About the role
Pick n Pay in Steeledale, Gauteng is looking for a hands on Production Assistant to join their retail team. This is a full time position where you will work in a fast paced store environment preparing and wrapping products, mainly meat items like sausage and mince, according to set standards and budgets.
Your day to day work will include:
- Manufacturing, preparing and wrapping products to specification and daily budgets
- Pricing random weight and loose selling items correctly and checking labels
- Doing regular quality checks, rotating stock and removing damaged or expired stock
- Preventing wastage, shrinkage and damages
- Checking temperatures and maintaining the cold chain
- Keeping hygiene, housekeeping and safety standards high
- Following security procedures and cleaning equipment as required
- Helping customers with product advice and processing their orders professionally
- Promoting products and communicating well with staff, management, customers and suppliers
Note: You may be asked to perform other duties from time to time and the role may require you to work across different stores.
Requirements
- Matric (Grade 12) is required
- Must reside close to the Steeledale store in Gauteng
- Able to manufacture and produce various meat products such as sausage and mince
- Must be able to communicate in English
- Calm and patient when dealing with customers and colleagues
- Conscientious and able to follow rules and procedures closely
- Customer minded with a helpful attitude
- Comfortable handling routine and repetitive work
- Thorough and accurate with attention to detail
- A team player who works well with others
Responsibilities
- Manufacture, prepare and wrap products according to specifications, standards and daily or weekly budgets
- Correctly price random weight and loose selling items and check that labels are correct
- Conduct regular quality checks and rotate stock, removing damaged or expired items
- Prevent wastage, shrinkage and damages in the production area
- Check temperatures and maintain the cold chain at all times
- Ensure hygiene, housekeeping and safe working standards are maintained
- Adhere to security procedures within the store
- Operate and clean equipment according to laid down standards
- Approach and advise customers on products, listen to their requests and provide required products or services courteously
- Process all customer orders according to correct procedures and service standards
- Promote products to customers
- Communicate effectively with employees, management, customers and suppliers
