Procurement Officer (Raw Materials & Manufacturing) Umhlanga
Talented Recruitment · Umhlanga, KwaZulu Natal
Overview
A manufacturing company in Umhlanga needs a Procurement Officer who can stay ahead of production demand instead of just processing orders. You will manage raw material and production supply sourcing, negotiate with suppliers, and keep production running by spotting risks early. If you have procurement experience in manufacturing, chemicals, coatings or FMCG and you are organised and commercially sharp, this permanent role is worth a look.
About the role
This role is about being proactive rather than reactive. You will manage the full procurement cycle for raw materials and production supplies, making sure the Umhlanga manufacturing operation always has what it needs without overordering or paying too much.
You will work closely with Production, Planning, Stores and Finance to understand demand, stock levels and lead times. You will monitor open orders, chase suppliers until delivery is confirmed, and escalate shortages or supplier risks before they affect production. Quotation comparisons, price negotiation and maintaining accurate purchasing records are part of your daily work, along with reviewing spend to find genuine cost savings that do not compromise quality or supply continuity.
Important application note: If you have not heard back within two weeks, please consider your application unsuccessful. The recruiter advertises all active roles on www.talentedrecruitment.co.za. By applying, you consent to Talented Recruitment processing your personal information in line with POPIA.

Success Guide
Before you apply, make sure your CV shows real procurement work, not just admin. This role is all about raw materials and production supplies in manufacturing, so highlight any experience you have buying stock, comparing quotes, negotiating with suppliers or using an ERP or Excel to track orders.
In an interview, expect questions about how you handle delays, a supplier who keeps missing deadlines, or a sudden production shortage. Have a clear example ready of when you spotted a problem early and what you did about it. The advert mentions chemicals and coatings experience as a bonus, so if you have that, put it in your CV. Also show that you are not just a purchase order processor: explain how you think ahead. Send your application through the Pnet link and keep an eye on the Talented Recruitment website for updates.
