Plant Engineer with GCC Mines & Works Certificate
GOLD HR & Recruitment Solutions
Overview
A mining recruitment company is looking for a qualified Plant Engineer with a GCC Mines & Works certificate to manage plant performance and safety. You will act as the legal appointee, oversee maintenance and reliability, lead engineering projects and mentor artisans. This mid to senior role requires 5 to 8 years as a Section Engineer in a plant environment. PGM or Chrome processing plant experience is a plus.
About the role
As the Plant Engineer, you will take on a legal appointment and serve as the responsible engineering authority for plant safety, integrity and operational reliability. You will make sure all plant, equipment and engineering systems comply with statutory regulations while maintaining the engineering standards and records that keep the operation running smoothly.
Your week will involve driving a zero harm safety culture, leading investigations into equipment failures and incidents, and putting corrective actions in place. You will manage asset strategies to maximise plant availability, oversee preventative and predictive maintenance programmes, and lead root cause failure analyses so that recurring problems get permanent solutions.
You will review and approve engineering designs and modifications, manage critical spares, and oversee plant shutdowns and major maintenance projects. There is also a strong project management element where you will lead capital and improvement projects from concept through to commissioning, managing contractors along the way.
On the people side, you will provide leadership, mentoring and technical direction to supervisors, artisans and apprentices, conduct performance management and help develop engineering succession plans. You will also support production teams with engineering solutions and drive continuous improvement and cost control initiatives.

Success Guide
This role is a serious step up for an engineer who already has their GCC Mines & Works certificate and a few years as a Section Engineer under their belt. When you apply, make sure your CV clearly shows your GCC certificate, your engineering degree and the exact number of years you have spent as a Section Engineer in a plant environment. If you have worked in PGM or Chrome processing plants, put that near the top because it will set you apart.
In the interview, expect questions about how you handle legal appointments, safety incidents and equipment failures. Have a real example ready of a root cause failure analysis you led and what changed as a result. They will also want to see that you can lead artisans and manage contractors, so think about a time you mentored someone or ran a shutdown project. Be yourself, show that you take safety seriously and demonstrate that you are hands on as well as strategic.
