About the role
As a Pipe Fitter at Pro Tem Capability in Cape Town, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of industrial piping systems and associated equipment. Your day to day work will involve cutting, threading, bending, aligning, and fitting pipes according to specifications and engineering drawings. You will also remove, replace, and repair pipes, valves, flanges, gaskets, and fittings, and assist with valve maintenance and refurbishment.
You will support maintenance projects, shutdowns, and plant operations, conducting inspections, pressure testing, and leak testing to ensure systems are safe and compliant with industry standards. Keeping accurate maintenance reports and working closely with maintenance and engineering teams will be part of your routine. This role requires a strong focus on safety, quality, and teamwork.
Requirements
- Matric (Grade 12)
- Minimum 3 years' experience as a Pipe Fitter in an industrial environment
- Trade Test qualification as a Pipe Fitter will be advantageous
- Experience in industries such as power generation, petrochemical, manufacturing, mining, oil and gas, or industrial maintenance
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, piping isometrics, and P&IDs
- Strong knowledge of industrial piping systems, valves, pumps, and process equipment
- Excellent problem solving and fault finding abilities
- Valid driver's license advantageous
- Ability to work overtime and shutdown schedules when required
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair industrial piping systems
- Cut, thread, bend, align, and fit pipes according to specifications and drawings
- Remove, replace, and repair pipes, valves, flanges, gaskets, and fittings
- Assist with valve maintenance, refurbishment, and repair activities
- Perform maintenance and piping modifications during shutdowns and projects
- Conduct inspections and identify defects on piping systems and related equipment
- Carry out pressure testing and leak testing of piping systems
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards
- Complete maintenance reports and job documentation accurately
- Work closely with maintenance and engineering teams to ensure maximum plant reliability and uptime
