About the role
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is hiring a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for their Mokala Mall store in Kuruman, Northern Cape. This is a permanent full time position where you will work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
What the role involves:
- Dispensing medication and assisting with compounding, re packaging, and stock control of scheduled medicines
- Accurately interpreting and capturing prescriptions, including verifying patient details and checking for drug interactions
- Advising patients on the correct use of medicine and explaining medical aid costs
- Following up on script tracking reports and managing chronic, HIV, and oncology medication authorisations
- Processing claims to medical schemes and resolving rejected scripts
- Maintaining customer profiles and reporting stock issues to the dispensary manager
- Keeping the dispensary clean, tidy, and compliant with Dis-Chem standards and health and safety rules

Requirements
- Grade 12 or Matric certificate
- Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
- Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
- Willing and able to work retail hours
- Physically fit and able to stand for long periods
- Valid driver's license
- Clear credit and criminal records
Advantageous:
- Knowledge of retail or FMCG operations
- A third additional language
- Experience with SAP and E Scripting
- Unisolve experience
Responsibilities
- Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines under pharmacist supervision
- Help with compounding, manipulation, and preparation of medicines according to approved formulas
- Re package and distribute medicines and control stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 substances
- Order medicines and scheduled substances up to Schedule 5 as instructed
- Read and prepare prescriptions, select and label medicines, and supply them in appropriate containers
- Interpret scripts accurately and capture details on the system while verifying patient information
- Pick, pack, label, and check medication, keeping aware of common dosages and drug interactions
- Give patients clear instructions on how to use their medicine correctly
- Assist and advise patients at the dispensary, self medication counter, and front shop
- Process medical scheme claims and correct rejected scripts
- Authorise chronic, HIV, and oncology medication and maintain customer profiles
- Report low stock or stock errors and help with bi annual stock takes
- Keep the dispensary clean and follow Dis-Chem policies and health and safety regulations
