Overview

PepsiCo is looking for a skilled Millwright to join their Epping team in Cape Town. You will keep plant machinery running safely through planned and reactive maintenance, working on electrical and mechanical systems, PLCs and fabrication. This is a hands on role for a Red Seal Millwright with at least 5 years of mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing setting. If you enjoy troubleshooting and keeping production moving, this one is for you.

About the role

As a Millwright at PepsiCo Epping, you will be responsible for maintaining plant and machinery to keep the site safe and running smoothly. Your work will cover both electrical and mechanical maintenance, from routine inspections and lubrication to fault finding on motors, conveyors, pumps and control circuits.

You will handle planned, preventive and corrective maintenance, making sure that PM completion rates stay above 95 percent and that SAP job cards are closed on time. Safety is a big part of the job, so you will follow all site safety, QFS, EHS, LOTO and permit requirements, report hazards and near misses, and keep your work area tidy.

You will also record maintenance activities accurately in SAP or CMMS, support root cause investigations, and look for ways to improve equipment reliability and efficiency. Teamwork matters here, so you will coordinate with production, electricians and other maintenance disciplines, especially during breakdowns, start ups and planned shutdowns.

Requirements

  • Matric or N3 Mechanical or Electrical Trade Theory
  • Millwright Trade Test Certificate or Red Seal
  • Welding knowledge and basic to intermediate metal fabrication skills
  • Minimum 5 years mechanical maintenance experience
  • FMCG or FMEA experience is advantageous
  • Strong mechanical and electrical background with basic PLC automation experience
  • Leadership experience and ability to mentor or supervise team members
  • Experience with SAP, Food Safe Welding and milling equipment is an advantage
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, fault finding and component replacement
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, schematics and manuals
  • Driver's licence and own transport required
  • Must be prepared to work shifts, standby, callouts and overtime

Responsibilities

  • Install, dismantle, assemble, align and commission mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Maintain and troubleshoot motors, conveyors, blowers, compressors, pumps and gearboxes
  • Perform electrical and mechanical fault finding on sensors, control circuits, starters and related equipment
  • Complete planned, preventive and corrective maintenance and close SAP PM job cards on time
  • Comply with safety, QFS, EHS, LOTO and permit requirements and report hazards and near misses
  • Record maintenance activities and equipment history in SAP or CMMS
  • Conduct routine inspections, lubrication and vibration analysis to prevent breakdowns
  • Support root cause investigations and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with production and other maintenance disciplines
  • Perform basic metal fabrication and welding where needed
  • Operate forklifts and overhead cranes and perform basic rigging safely

In the interview, be ready to talk through real breakdowns you have solved and how you keep safety first in a busy plant. Showing that you can work shifts, standby and callouts will also count in your favour.
