About the role
Dis-Chem Pharmacies has a permanent opportunity for a Merchandiser at their Carlswald store in the Midrand region. You will make sure that Dis-Chem merchandising standards are met and maintained daily, while also giving excellent customer service.
What you will do on the floor:
- Restock shelves with delivered stock so merchandise is available on time.
- Make sure products are displayed correctly, visible and properly faced up.
- Check sell by dates and rotate stock using the first in, first out rule.
- Report low stock, out of stock, damaged or expired items to management.
- Help with stock counts and general stocktaking.
- Keep the store and shelving neat, with correct labels and pricing.
- Help customers with friendly, helpful advice and follow up on out of stock queries.
- Approach the physical work with care when loading and off loading stock.

Requirements
- Grade 12 or Matric is essential.
- Up to 6 months retail experience is essential.
- Computer literate in MS Office.
- Willing and able to work retail hours.
- Strong command of the English language.
- Presentable, trustworthy and honest.
- Good time management.
- Ability to work with customers, management and staff.
- Physically fit to lift and move heavy boxes.
- Reliable transport or live close to the store.
- South African citizen with clear credit and criminal records.
- At least 1 year retail experience and being bilingual are advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Restock merchandise so that maximum sales can be achieved.
- Store and pack delivered stock or stock from the storeroom in the correct space and on time.
- Make sure stock on shelves has not reached its sell by date.
- Ensure the full range of products is on the shelves at all times.
- Rotate stock regularly using the FIFO basis.
- Report low stock, out of stock items, damaged stock and expired stock to management.
- Assist with counting of stock files and general stocktaking.
- Follow Dis-Chem operating standards, store layout and planograms.
- Flatten boxes after unpacking and take them to the designated area.
- Keep front shop shelves and products neatly presented and visible with correct labels and pricing.
- Report price discrepancies to management.
- Build, face up, stock and maintain merchandising displays.
- Maintain daily physical upkeep of the store and displays and take responsibility for designated stock in the storeroom and on the shop floor.
- Assist with loading and off loading of stock.
- Ensure items without barcodes are clearly marked.
- Assist with back shopping.
- Help train new staff.
- Provide friendly, helpful and courteous assistance to customers.
- Follow up on customer out of stock queries using the customer service out of stock list.
- Deal with and resolve customer stock queries.
- Wear the correct uniform and badge at all times.
- Minimise losses by handling all merchandise carefully.
- Adhere to Dis-Chem policies, procedures, SOPs and health and safety rules.
