Mechanical Fitter with Electrical Expertise (Netherlands)
Datafin IT Recruitment · Netherlands
Overview
A global investment group in the Netherlands needs a Mechanical Fitter who can handle both electrical and mechanical maintenance on industrial machinery. You will diagnose faults, keep production running, and work with motors, drives, PLCs and conveyors. This permanent, full time role suits someone with a strong electrical background who also enjoys hands on mechanical work.
About the role
This is a hands on maintenance role where you will keep industrial production equipment safe, reliable and efficient. You will work on machinery that combines electrical, mechanical and control systems, so every day brings a mix of fault finding, repairs and preventive maintenance.
What you will be doing:
- Diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults on production machinery.
- Reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and mechanical drawings.
- Testing motors, drives, sensors and control circuits.
- Dismantling, overhauling and aligning bearings, shafts, gearboxes, pumps and conveyors.
- Carrying out preventive maintenance and recording your work.
- Recommending improvements to reduce downtime and recurring faults.
You will work closely with operators, maintenance colleagues and automation specialists, and safety will always be central to how you work.
Requirements
- Relevant technical qualification with a strong electrical component, such as Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or a Millwright trade qualification.
- Solid understanding of industrial electrical systems and electrical safety.
- Hands on experience diagnosing electrical faults on production machinery.
- Knowledge of three phase motors, motor protection, electrical circuits and drive systems.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and use electrical testing equipment.
- Experience with sensors, relays, contactors and machine control systems.
- Experience with variable frequency drives and a working knowledge of PLC systems.
- Strong mechanical maintenance foundation covering drives, bearings, pumps, conveyors, hydraulics and pneumatics.
- Ability to assemble and align components accurately and assess equipment condition.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical faults on industrial machinery.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and mechanical drawings.
- Perform electrical measurements and investigate faults in power, control and motor circuits.
- Install, connect, test and maintain electric motors and drive systems.
- Inspect and replace sensors, limit switches, relays, contactors and other electrical components.
- Troubleshoot variable frequency drives and electrically controlled hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Investigate faults on PLC controlled machinery by checking input and output signals.
- Carry out preventive maintenance on electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Dismantle, overhaul, assemble and align bearings, shafts, couplings, gearboxes, pumps and conveyor systems.
- Test and adjust machinery after repairs, maintenance or modifications.
- Record maintenance activities and recommend improvements to reduce recurring faults and downtime.

Success Guide
This role is based in the Netherlands, so be prepared to discuss relocation, visas and your passport status if you are shortlisted. The employer wants someone who genuinely understands both electrical and mechanical systems, not just someone who can swop out a motor. In your CV, highlight specific examples where you traced electrical faults on production machinery, worked with PLCs or drives, and handled mechanical overhauls. At interview, expect technical questions on fault finding and safety procedures like lockout and isolation. Emphasise your ability to work independently and document your maintenance work clearly. If you have a Millwright trade qualification or a strong electrical engineering diploma, make that stand out.
