About the role
Our client, one of South Africa's leading banks and a recognised innovator in financial technology, needs a Lead Technical Business Automation Workflow Engineer to join their team in JHB Central. You will translate complex business and technical requirements into scalable, reliable software solutions within continuous delivery pipelines.
Day to day, you will design technical specifications, write and refactor code, test and debug applications, and provide ongoing system support. You will also coach less experienced engineers, perform quality assurance on their work, and help shape end to end solutions against engineering standards. Expect to work closely with senior leaders and cross functional teams on abstract problems that span multiple business areas.

Requirements
- Degree or postgraduate qualification in Information Technology
- 5 to 7 years of experience translating business and functional requirements into technical specifications and developing code
- 8 to 10 years of proven experience in modern engineering practices such as DevOps and Agile
- Proven experience across multiple broad IT engineering disciplines with specialisation in at least one
- Strong leadership skills with a hands on approach as an architect or developer
- Experience in BAW or BPM, SOA, system architecture and design
- Process modelling (BPMN 2.0), Process Applications and Business Process Definitions (BPDs)
- Coach UI and Coach Views development (Dojo, custom widgets) including handling caching issues
- Business Object modelling, Integration Services and SCA
- BAW REST APIs and Process Portal customisation
- Performance tuning and troubleshooting for BAW runtime (thread pools, DB connection pools, caching)
- Environment and topology knowledge: WebSphere or Liberty deployment and cluster/HA topology for BAW
- Expertise in the full software development life cycle
- Strong experience in Java and J2EE technologies
- Strong knowledge of HTML, jQuery, CSS, JavaScript and UI frameworks
- Solid background in Spring and Hibernate
- Hands on experience developing SOAP and REST services
- Familiarity with common browser developer tools and performance tuning techniques
- Experience building high availability multi threaded applications
- Knowledge of DevOps tools such as Jenkins, TeamCity or SONAR is a plus
- Familiarity with database technologies such as RDBMS or NoSQL
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing a team of developers
- Strong knowledge of software development methodologies, design patterns and best practices
- Familiarity with Agile or Scrum development processes and tools
- Experience with version control systems such as Git and CI/CD pipelines
- Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to think critically
Responsibilities
- Adhere to application lifecycle management accountabilities, architectural platforms and guardrails, ensuring all activity is digitally recorded for audit readiness
- Adopt agreed development methodologies and principles to enable continuous delivery and effective collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders
- Coach or mentor less experienced engineers on technical aspects, controls and documentation standards
- Construct, interpret and execute end to end system and program tests to verify correct operation of completed systems
- Develop code, build, assemble, implement, test and perform data conversion for applications
- Develop specifications that support design, coding, building, configuration, implementation, testing and documentation
- Develop tier coding, business layer coding, interface development and service development as applicable
- Manage work requirements by contributing to reprioritising backlogs and reacting flexibly to changing demands
- Participate in defining complex, abstract problems across business lines and apply creative solutions addressing technical and people or culture challenges
- Perform quality assurance on code, documents and test plans completed by less experienced developers
- Prepare test cases, conduct unit testing and deploy code builds in testing environments to resolve errors within service level timelines
- Produce specifications for system functions, information flows, data loads and implementation strategy
- Provide production standby support post go live, adhering to release methodology and technical change management procedures
- Research and stay abreast of new development methodologies and contribute to maturing on the Continuum model
