About the role
Our client is a dynamic, revenue generating manufacturing intelligence startup based in Century City, Cape Town. They are looking for a Junior to Intermediate FullStack Developer to join their team and help build live AI dashboards and high impact integrations for paying industrial clients across Africa.
This role is genuinely full stack, but the majority of your work will focus on the backend and databases, with deployment to AWS. You will work with a high level of independence, taking ownership of features from start to finish. The Fractional CTO will provide architectural guidance and support with complex problems, but you need to be comfortable delivering your work without significant day to day direction.
You will build and ship features end to end across a React front end and NestJS backend, model and manage time series and relational data at scale using PostgreSQL and TimescaleDB, deploy and maintain services on AWS with an eye on cost and uptime, and contribute to data and AI features that surface insight and automation for manufacturers. Depending on your level, you may also support and mentor younger developers. You will translate customer requirements into clean technical solutions and engage directly with clients on site when required.

Requirements
- 0 to 5 years of commercial development experience
- A university degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT or a related field (preferable)
- Backend development experience, with databases and deployment to AWS
- Experience with React and NestJS (or similar full stack frameworks)
- Experience with PostgreSQL or TimescaleDB and managing time series or relational data at scale
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of work from start to finish
- Bonus: manufacturing, MES, IIoT or industrial data domain exposure
- Bonus: time series or high volume ingestion experience
- Bonus: data visualisation or BI experience (Power BI, custom dashboards)
- Soft skills: innovative problem solver, adaptable builder, process optimizer, ambitious and resilient
Responsibilities
- Build and ship features end to end across a React front end and NestJS backend
- Model and manage time series and relational data at scale using PostgreSQL and TimescaleDB
- Deploy and maintain services on AWS with a focus on cost and uptime
- Contribute to data and AI features, building on the AI/LLM layer to surface insight and automation for manufacturers
- Support and mentor younger developers and help lift code quality and technical decisions (depending on your level)
- Translate customer requirements into clean technical solutions
- Engage directly with clients on site when required
- Take ownership of work from start to finish with minimal day to day direction
Benefits
Salary includes R1,000 towards medical aid and R400 towards a cellphone allowance, access to a Performance Coach or Psychologist with sessions every two weeks, quarterly and annual goals with performance incentives, potential for a hybrid working arrangement in the future
