A company in the Energy and Electrical Solutions sector is looking for a Junior Automation and Technical Support Engineer. You will help customers choose the right Variable Speed Drives and motor control equipment, provide first line technical support, and grow your skills in industrial automation. Based in Montague Gardens, Cape Town. If you have a qualification in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or similar and are fluent in English and Afrikaans, this could be your next step.
About the role
As a Junior Automation and Technical Support Engineer, you will be the first point of contact for customers and internal teams needing help with Variable Speed Drives, motor control equipment, and automation controllers. You will assist with product selection for specific industrial applications and provide fault diagnosis and troubleshooting support.
You will also handle general automation queries, offer clear and solution focused advice, and deepen your knowledge of the product range and industrial automation trends. As the automation product line grows, you will collaborate with technical and sales teams to support regional enterprise clients.
Note: Applicants must be currently residing in Cape Town and must be fluent in English and Afrikaans.
Requirements
- Degree, Diploma, or N6 in Electrical Engineering, Control and Instrumentation, Mechatronics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- Strong foundational interest or practical exposure to Variable Speed Drives (VSDs), motor control, PLCs, or industrial automation
- Must be currently residing in Cape Town
- Fluent in English and Afrikaans
- Excellent problem solving, analytical, and troubleshooting mindset
- Strong communication skills with an aptitude for client interaction and technical advisory
- High level of curiosity, eagerness to learn, and commitment to personal technical development
- Ability to grow into a self directed technical specialist as the department expands
Responsibilities
- Assist customers and internal teams with selecting the correct Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) and motor control equipment for specific industrial applications
- Provide first line technical assistance, fault diagnosis, and troubleshooting for clients regarding VSDs, automation controllers, and general drive applications
- Handle general automation related technical queries from clients and provide clear, solution focused guidance
- Deepen technical knowledge of the product range, electrical drive systems, and broader industrial automation trends
- Collaborate with the broader technical and sales teams as the automation product line grows across regional enterprise clients
