IT Project Manager / Transition Manager (5 Month Contract, Hybrid)
Pro Development Group · South Africa · Hybrid
Overview
A global tech firm is looking for a hands-on IT Project Manager to coordinate a portfolio of application and infrastructure projects on a 5 month contract, with possible renewal. This hybrid role is perfect for a mid-level delivery focused PM who enjoys working across technical and business teams, managing multiple workstreams, and seeing services transition smoothly into operations. If you are organised, proactive, and comfortable working independently, this could be a great next step.
About the role
Our client, a global tech firm, is seeking an experienced Project Manager / Transition Manager to join their team on a 5 month contract, with the possibility of renewal. This is a hybrid role based in South Africa.
You will manage and coordinate a portfolio of IT initiatives across application and infrastructure environments. The role requires a hands on project manager who can take ownership of multiple concurrent activities, coordinate technical and business stakeholders, manage dependencies and risks, and ensure projects or services transition successfully into the operational environment.
This is a mid level delivery role rather than a senior programme management position. You should be comfortable working independently while escalating significant risks, decisions and dependencies appropriately.
Key duties include:
- Managing multiple small to medium IT projects and transition activities concurrently.
- Developing and maintaining project plans, milestones, dependencies and delivery schedules.
- Coordinating activities across Applications, Infrastructure, End User Computing, Service Management and other IT teams.
- Facilitating project meetings, working sessions and status reviews.
- Tracking actions, risks, issues and dependencies through to resolution.
- Producing clear project status reporting for stakeholders.
- Managing stakeholder expectations and maintaining regular communication.
- Supporting the transition of new or changed services into operational support.
- Ensuring operational readiness requirements such as support arrangements, documentation, access, knowledge transfer and handover activities are completed.
- Coordinating testing, implementation and go live readiness activities.
- Identifying delivery risks early and driving mitigation actions.
- Maintaining project governance and documentation.
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience managing IT projects or service transition activities.
- Experience across a mixture of application and IT infrastructure projects.
- Strong planning, coordination and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage several workstreams or projects simultaneously.
- Experience managing RAID items: risks, assumptions, issues and dependencies.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with technical teams without being the technical subject matter expert.
- Experience coordinating delivery across geographically or functionally distributed teams.
- Good understanding of the IT project lifecycle and transition into operational support.
- Comfortable working in a fast moving environment where priorities may change.
- Desirable: Experience with infrastructure migrations, application implementations, upgrades or service transitions.
- Desirable: Understanding of ITIL / IT Service Management principles.
- Desirable: Experience working with Service Desk, EUC, Infrastructure and Application Management teams.
- Desirable: Familiarity with Agile and traditional/waterfall delivery approaches.
- Desirable: Project management certification such as PRINCE2, PMP, AgilePM or equivalent (beneficial but not essential).
Responsibilities
- Manage multiple small to medium IT projects and transition activities concurrently.
- Develop and maintain project plans, milestones, dependencies and delivery schedules.
- Coordinate activities across Applications, Infrastructure, End User Computing, Service Management and other IT teams as required.
- Facilitate project meetings, working sessions and status reviews.
- Track actions, risks, issues and dependencies through to resolution.
- Produce clear and concise project status reporting for stakeholders.
- Coordinate technical resources and ensure delivery activities remain aligned to agreed timelines.
- Manage stakeholder expectations and maintain regular communication throughout delivery.
- Support the transition of new or changed services into operational support.
- Ensure operational readiness requirements such as support arrangements, documentation, access, knowledge transfer and handover activities are completed.
- Coordinate testing, implementation and go live readiness activities where applicable.
- Identify delivery risks early and drive appropriate mitigation actions.
- Maintain appropriate project governance and project documentation.

Success Guide
Hey there! If you are a mid level project manager with a knack for juggling IT projects and helping new services settle into operations, this 5 month contract could be a fantastic opportunity. The client is a global tech firm, so you will be working with smart people and cutting edge tech.
When you apply, make sure your CV clearly shows how you have managed multiple IT projects at once, coordinated between different technical teams, and handled risks and dependencies. If you have any experience with service transitions or ITIL, definitely highlight that. Even if you do not have a certification like PRINCE2 or PMP, do not worry, they said it is beneficial but not essential.
Since it is a hybrid role, you will need to be comfortable working both remotely and on site. Show them you are organised, proactive, and can keep momentum going across several workstreams. Good luck!
