About the role
Our client, a reputable firm in the investment banking space, is looking for an Investment Banking Associate to join their team in Johannesburg. This is a permanent, full time role focused on the metals and mining sector, where you will work on high value transactions across the natural resources value chain.
What the role involves:
- Executing and originating mandates across M&A, equity capital raising, project finance, debt finance and royalty or streaming structures
- Building and maintaining relationships with corporate clients, financial sponsors and specialist mining investors
- Performing financial analysis, valuation and transaction structuring work
- Applying mining specific metrics to value exploration, development and producing assets
- Collaborating with colleagues across regional offices on cross border deals
You will be part of a small, focused team where technical excellence and client relationship skills matter equally. The role suits someone who understands how mining assets are valued and who can hold their own in deal conversations with sponsors and investors.

Requirements
- Minimum of 4 years of investment banking or corporate finance experience
- Prior transaction experience within the metals and mining or wider natural resources sector
- Strong technical skills in financial analysis, valuation and transaction structuring
- Working understanding of mining specific metrics and how exploration, development and producing assets are valued
- Proven ability to build relationships with corporate clients, financial sponsors and specialist mining investors
- Experience originating and executing mandates
- Familiarity with deal types relevant to the sector, including M&A, equity capital raising, project finance, debt finance and royalty and streaming structures
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues across regional offices
- Strong skills using technology
- Experience within an investment bank, corporate finance advisory, private equity or resources focused fund is an advantage
- Sector exposure to precious metals, base and battery metals, bulk commodities or mining services is a strong advantage
