About the role
InspHired Recruitment Solutions is recruiting on behalf of a client for a Hybrid Static Impact and Pecker Operator based in Lydenburg. In this role, you will work underground in a hybrid mining environment, using static impact breakers and compactors to break up oversized rocks and materials at ore passes, loading areas, and draw points. You will make sure equipment is set up correctly, monitor impact settings based on rock type, and carry out pre-use inspections on hydraulic components, impact heads, and safety guards.
Day to day, you will report faults, do basic maintenance like cleaning and checking fluid levels, and keep your work area safe by placing barricades and signage. You will also watch for ground instability or loose rock, follow production instructions over the radio, and work closely with supervisors, LHD operators, and blasting crews to keep things moving. The role includes attending toolbox talks, risk assessments, and pre-shift briefings, plus keeping records of equipment use and completed tasks.
Requirements
- Grade 10 or Grade 12 is advantageous.
- Competent B certificate for Underground Hard Rock.
- Knowledge of hybrid mining methods.
- A minimum of 5 years of practical experience as a Static Impact Operator in a hybrid mining environment.
- Certificate of Competency as a Static Impact or Pecker Operator.
- Valid Medical Certificate of Fitness to work underground.
- Strong safety and production record in a hybrid mining environment.
- English proficiency with good communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities
- Operate static impact breakers or compactors to reduce oversized rocks and materials at ore passes, loading areas, or draw points.
- Position and align equipment to ensure effective impact while minimising damage to surrounding structures.
- Adjust impact frequency or pressure settings based on rock type or task requirements.
- Conduct pre-use inspections of hydraulic components, impact heads, mounting points, and safety guards.
- Report mechanical or hydraulic faults and log defects found.
- Perform basic maintenance such as cleaning equipment, checking fluid levels, and tightening bolts.
- Follow health and safety procedures under the Mine Health and Safety Act and use correct PPE.
- Barricade work areas and display proper signage while operating the impact machine.
- Monitor for ground instability, gas, or loose rock and act according to site protocols.
- Follow production instructions received via radio communication.
- Break down boulders that block chutes, draw points, ore passes, or conveyor feed areas to maintain material flow.
- Assist with compacting backfill or support material when required by rock engineering instructions.
- Support loaders and haulage teams by clearing large debris from work areas.
- Communicate with shift supervisors, LHD operators, blasting crews, and team leaders to coordinate tasks and report delays.
- Attend daily toolbox talks, risk assessments, and pre-shift briefings.
- Report equipment use, breakdowns, and completed tasks clearly and promptly.
- Keep the work area clean and free of loose material that could interfere with safe operation.
- Assist in controlling dust and noise by using water sprays or other mitigation tools as instructed.
