A senior tech services firm is hiring a hands-on AI Engineering & Architecture Lead to build enterprise grade AI solutions from concept to production. You will lead multi agent systems, RAG architectures and agentic workflows while advising C level clients on scaling AI. This is a permanent full time role based in Cape Town or Johannesburg for someone who has genuinely operated AI systems in production, not just built demos. About the role
Hrvisory is looking for an experienced AI Engineering & Architecture Lead to design, build and deliver AI native solutions that work in the real world. This is a hands on technical leadership role where you will own the full journey from discovery to production deployment and ongoing support.
What the day to day looks like:
- Architecting and delivering multi agent systems using frameworks like LangGraph or CrewAI, including orchestration patterns, tool routing, state management and recovery strategies.
- Leading evaluation and error analysis for non deterministic AI systems, building datasets and repeatable testing practices that improve accuracy over time.
- Designing context management strategies, memory systems and agent tool interfaces with proper permissions and failure handling.
- Integrating AI agents with enterprise systems like ERP, CRM and production data platforms, and building RAG solutions covering ingestion, embeddings, retrieval and re ranking.
- Using agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or Codex to guide AI assisted development through architecture, review, testing and release.
- Embedding security and governance from the start, including agent identity, least privilege access, audit trails and human in the loop controls.
- Leading client discovery workshops, architecture reviews and solution design sessions, and presenting recommendations to CTOs and CIOs.
- Mentoring engineers, setting technical standards and contributing to reusable frameworks and reference architectures across the practice.
Good to know: This is a client facing consulting and delivery role within a technology services environment. You will need to be comfortable both writing and reviewing code and presenting strategic advice to executive stakeholders.
Requirements
- Strong software engineering and distributed systems fundamentals, including data modelling across SQL and NoSQL.
- Proven experience designing and implementing event driven architectures using Kafka, RabbitMQ or similar, with message ordering, idempotency and dead letter handling.
- Hands on experience managing distributed systems challenges such as partial failures, retries, backpressure, timeouts and circuit breakers.
- Practical expertise in caching strategies, observability via structured logging, metrics and distributed tracing, and deep knowledge of at least one major cloud platform.
- Experience designing APIs and enterprise integrations across ERP, CRM and data platforms, plus CI/CD, containerisation and reliable deployment practices.
- Demonstrated ownership of production systems including incident management, troubleshooting and on call responsibilities.
- Hands on experience designing and delivering production grade AI applications and agentic systems.
- Practical expertise in AI evaluation, error analysis, context engineering and agent orchestration.
- Experience with multi agent frameworks such as LangGraph or CrewAI, and RAG architectures.
- Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) and shared context tooling.
- Strong client facing consulting, communication and technical leadership capabilities, with the ability to translate complex business problems into clear technical architectures.
