This is a senior opportunity for an engineer with 8 or more years of hands-on experience in PLC, HMI and SCADA systems who enjoys solving complex technical problems and coaching others.

About the role

As the Group Specialist: Electrical and Mechatronics, you will join CCBA's Group Supply Chain team and report to the relevant Engineering, Manufacturing, or Group Technical leadership function. Part of the role involves promoting Industry 4.0 technologies like IoT-enabled sensors, advanced robotics and real-time control systems. You will deliver training and coaching to engineering and maintenance teams, lead technical audits, and facilitate cross-market knowledge exchange to replicate successful solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 8 or more years of relevant engineering experience in a manufacturing or FMCG environment, with a focus on electrical infrastructure and automation systems
  • Hands-on experience in PLC, HMI and SCADA programming, electrical system design, commissioning and troubleshooting
  • Proven involvement in capital project support, including specification, installation and commissioning of electrical and mechatronic equipment
  • Expertise in designing, analysing and maintaining low and medium voltage electrical systems in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, HMI and SCADA systems, sensors, and control logic
  • Ability to integrate mechanical, electrical and software components into cohesive systems such as robotics, servo drives and actuators
  • Strong analytical and root cause problem solving skills
  • Thorough understanding of electrical codes, engineering standards and safety regulations

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy CCBA-wide standards for electrical infrastructure, PLCs, HMIs and mechatronic systems to ensure consistency and compliance across plants
  • Support markets with expert advice on electrical systems, automation design, and integration of robotics and mechatronics into production lines
  • Ensure technical requirements for electrical and control systems are accurately scoped, reviewed and implemented in capital and line upgrade projects
  • Lead troubleshooting, root cause analysis and control system optimisation to reduce downtime, enhance safety and improve overall equipment effectiveness
  • Promote the implementation of Industry 4.0 technologies such as IoT-enabled sensors, advanced robotics and real-time control systems
  • Deliver training and coaching to engineering and maintenance teams to improve understanding and application of electrical, automation and mechatronic systems
  • Support adherence to KO standards, regulatory requirements and safety protocols for all electrical infrastructure, controls and installations
  • Lead technical audits, assessments and cross-market knowledge exchange to accelerate the replication of successful solutions and drive continuous improvement

Success Guide

This is a senior technical role at one of Africa's largest bottlers, so your application should highlight more than just your qualifications. Make sure your CV clearly shows the scale of the manufacturing environments you have worked in, the specific PLC, HMI and SCADA platforms you know, and examples of capital projects you supported from specification through to commissioning. If you have experience rolling out standards across multiple plants or mentoring maintenance teams, bring that forward. In interviews, expect questions that test your root cause analysis thinking and how you approach system optimisation. A solid understanding of electrical codes and safety regulations will also come up. Take time to connect your experience to the size and complexity of CCBA's operations across 14 markets.
