About the role
Our client, operating within a regulated financial environment, is looking for a Financial Reporting Officer to join their team in Midrand on a fixed term basis. You will play a key role in preparing accurate and timely financial reports, compiling annual financial statements and supporting compliance with applicable accounting standards and financial legislation.
What you will be doing:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports, including management accounts and performance reports.
- Assist with the preparation of Annual Financial Statements in line with GRAP standards.
- Analyse financial performance, budget variances and cash flow forecasts.
- Process journal entries, reconcile general ledger and suspense accounts.
- Handle revenue recognition, impairment journals and financial compliance reporting.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and responding to findings.
- Ensure adherence to PFMA, Treasury Regulations and internal controls.
What you need to bring:
- A BCom degree in Accounting or Financial Accounting.
- At least two years of relevant financial reporting experience.
- Practical experience with GRAP and CaseWare.
- Knowledge of the PFMA and Treasury Regulations.
- A valid Code 8 driver's licence.
- Three years of completed articles would be an added advantage.
Requirements
- BCom Degree in Accounting or Financial Accounting (minimum preferred qualification).
- Minimum of two years relevant experience in financial reporting.
- Practical experience with GRAP-based financial reporting.
- Demonstrated experience using CaseWare for preparing and reviewing financial statements.
- Knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
- Understanding of National Treasury Regulations, guidelines and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience in financial reconciliations, management accounting and general ledger processing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial accounting systems.
- Three years of completed and signed off articles would be an added advantage.
- Valid Code 8 driver's licence.
- Strong financial report writing skills.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and compile monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
- Assist with the preparation of Annual Financial Statements in accordance with GRAP standards.
- Prepare monthly management accounts and financial performance reports.
- Analyse financial performance, budget variances and financial trends.
- Prepare cash flow forecasts and monitor liquidity.
- Process monthly journal entries, including depreciation, accruals and provisions.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger and suspense accounts.
- Process monthly revenue and receipts in line with financial policies and GRAP.
- Prepare impairment journals for receivables.
- Ensure compliance with PFMA, Treasury Regulations and relevant financial reporting standards.
- Compile statutory and financial compliance reports.
- Prepare financial schedules and support internal and external audits.
- Respond to audit findings and maintain accurate financial records.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting processes and operational efficiency.
