Overview

A hands-on Finance Manager role in Midrand for someone who enjoys the full accounting and tax function. You will support the Country Finance Manager, lead a small team and work closely with sales and warehouse on real business issues. The pay is R60,000 to R70,000 CTC per month and the client is a large multinational style business. Senior Accountants and Assistant Finance Managers are welcome to apply.

About the role

Our client is looking for a practical Finance Manager to join their Midrand team on a permanent, full time basis. This is a hands-on role where you will take ownership of the local accounting and tax functions while supporting the Country Finance Manager.

You will lead a small finance team, currently one local accountant, and work closely with Sales, Warehouse and other departments to keep financial processes running smoothly. The business deals with inventory and marketplace channels, so you will investigate discrepancies and strengthen internal controls across receivables, credit control, fixed assets and returns.

Expect to be involved in month end close, financial reporting, annual financial statements, audits, VAT, Corporate Income Tax, PAYE and Withholding Tax. You will also help with ERP optimisation, including SAP and warehouse management systems.

Important application notes: Include your current CTC, salary expectations and notice period or availability. Your salary expectations must fall within the advertised range. Shortlisted applicants will be asked for a recent professional photograph, latest payslip and reasons for leaving previous employment before client submission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field
  • 5 to 8 years of relevant experience
  • Strong practical knowledge of South African accounting and tax requirements
  • Personal, hands-on experience managing VAT, Corporate Income Tax, Annual Financial Statements and financial reporting
  • Proven ability to independently manage full set accounting and tax matters
  • Experience managing month end close, year end financial processes and audit coordination
  • Previous experience in a business with annual turnover exceeding US$24 million
  • Experience supervising or managing a small finance team, including at least one direct report
  • ERP experience, with SAP preferred
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and stakeholder management skills
  • A stable employment history, ideally no more than three positions in the past five years
  • CA(SA) or SAICA background would be advantageous
  • Experience in multinational or inventory driven businesses, process improvement and system implementation would be beneficial
  • You must have personally executed the core accounting and tax responsibilities and be comfortable remaining hands on while supervising the team

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of accounting operations, month end close and financial reporting
  • Prepare and review Annual Financial Statements and coordinate year end audits
  • Manage tax compliance, including VAT, Corporate Income Tax, PAYE and Withholding Tax
  • Ensure accounting practices comply with South African requirements and group policies
  • Manage cash and treasury activities, including dividend distribution where required
  • Liaise with auditors, banks, tax advisers and regulatory authorities
  • Investigate discrepancies involving inventory, sales, returns and operational data, and drive resolution
  • Work with Sales, Warehouse and other departments to resolve financial and process issues
  • Oversee marketplace channels from a finance perspective
  • Develop and strengthen internal controls covering accounts receivable, credit control, fixed assets and returns
  • Support ERP optimisation and integration, including SAP and warehouse management systems

Success Guide

This Finance Manager role is a great step if you are ready to run the full accounting and tax function with real ownership. The client is looking for someone hands on, so be ready to talk in your interview about times you personally handled VAT, Corporate Income Tax, AFS and audits, not just supervised them.

When you apply, make it easy for the recruiter. Put your current CTC, your salary expectation within the R60k to R70k range, and your notice period right at the top of your CV or cover note. They have asked for this upfront, and missing it could cost you the shortlist spot. Also have your latest payslip, a professional photo and clear reasons for leaving past jobs ready, because shortlisted candidates are asked for these before going to the client.
