About the role
As Feedlot Manager, you will take full charge of daily operations at a large commercial feedlot in Middelburg. This is a leadership role where you will manage feeding schedules, pen management and animal health monitoring, while keeping a close eye on cattle intake, processing, tagging and backgrounding protocols.
You will track and report on key performance metrics such as average daily gain, feed conversion ratios, mortality and morbidity rates, and cost per head. You will also build strong relationships with veterinarians, nutritionists and suppliers, and make sure biosecurity, quarantine and health protocols are followed without exception.
Leading a large team of herdsmen, processing staff and admin personnel will be part of your daily routine, including overseeing performance, training and scheduling. You will report regularly to senior management on feedlot performance and financials, and ensure all legislation and internal SOPs are met.

Requirements
- Minimum 5 to 8 years in a feedlot management role, with experience at scale of 20,000+ head
- Proven experience managing a commercial feedlot with throughput or capacity in excess of 20,000 cattle
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Animal Science, Agriculture or a related field (advantageous)
- Strong working knowledge of cattle nutrition, ration formulation and feed conversion ratios
- Experience with biosecurity protocols, disease prevention and mortality or morbidity management
- Familiarity with feedlot management software or systems such as Gigalot or similar
- Strong understanding of South African animal health regulations including the Meat Safety Act and Animal Diseases Act
- Proven track record managing large teams including herdsmen, processing staff and admin
- Valid driver's license and willingness to be based on site
