Overview

Abantu Staffing Solutions is looking for a hands-on Erecting Machine Technician to service, maintain and repair carton erecting machines at customer sites across the Eastern Cape. If you have 3 to 5 years of mechanical or machinery experience, strong fault-finding skills and you are happy travelling to packhouses and customer premises, this is a solid opportunity to grow your technical career in a supportive manufacturing environment. You will work independently, solve real problems on site and keep machines running efficiently for customers.

About the role

As an Erecting Machine Technician, you will be the go-to person for keeping carton erecting machines running smoothly at various customer sites. You will travel regularly to packhouses and customer premises to carry out planned maintenance, diagnose mechanical faults and attend breakdowns when they happen. The role is hands-on and independent, so you will manage your own workload while making sure customers get professional, efficient service every time.

You will also be responsible for minimising machine downtime through preventative maintenance and quick fault resolution, while sticking to health, safety and housekeeping standards. Strong communication and a customer-focused attitude are important because you will represent the company on site. If you enjoy working with machinery and dealing directly with clients, this role gives you that mix.

Requirements

  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a technical, mechanical, agricultural or machinery-related environment
  • Experience servicing, maintaining and repairing machinery
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic abilities
  • Valid Code 8 driver's licence
  • Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with customers at all levels
  • Willingness to travel regularly to customer sites
  • Available to work overtime, weekends and after hours when required
  • Able to work independently and manage own workload
  • Self-motivated, proactive and goal-oriented with strong organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Direct carton erecting machine experience will be advantageous, but candidates with transferable machinery servicing and repair experience are encouraged to apply

Responsibilities

  • Service, maintain and repair carton erecting machines at various customer sites
  • Conduct planned and preventative maintenance to ensure machines operate efficiently
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out necessary repairs
  • Attend breakdowns and customer call-outs when required
  • Conduct regular visits to packhouses and customer premises
  • Minimise machine downtime through effective maintenance and fast fault resolution
  • Ensure machinery operates efficiently and reliably
  • Adhere to health, safety, environmental and housekeeping standards
  • Represent the company professionally when interacting with customers

Success Guide

This role is a great fit if you enjoy working with your hands and solving mechanical problems on the go. When you apply, make sure your CV clearly shows your experience servicing and repairing machinery, even if it was in a different industry like agriculture or packaging. Mention specific machines you have worked on and any fault-finding or diagnostic training you have completed. Since the job involves travelling to customer sites, highlight that you have a valid Code 8 licence and are comfortable with regular travel and overtime. In an interview, be ready to talk through a time you diagnosed and fixed a mechanical fault under pressure. A calm, customer-friendly attitude goes a long way here because you will be representing the company on site. Also remember to attach your matric certificate and driver's licence with your application.
