About the role
As an Enrolled Nurse in the Medical Ward at Netcare Sunward Park Hospital, you will be responsible for the direct and indirect nursing care of patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Requirements
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as an Enrolled Nurse
- Compliance with the SANC code for an Enrolled Nurse and all applicable health care legislation
- Relevant experience in the nursing discipline
- Ability to work under direct and/or indirect supervision of a Registered Nurse
- Accountability for own acts and omissions
- Knowledge of infection prevention and standard precautions
- Understanding of medico-legal hazards and waste management principles
- Competence in CPR
- Strong communication and teamwork skills

Responsibilities
- Provide direct and indirect nursing care to patients in the Medical Ward
- Assess, care for and meet patient needs under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
- Develop, implement and evaluate appropriate programmes of care
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation reflecting patient care
- Ensure all stock is charged appropriately and assist with file compilation
- Maintain a therapeutic, clean and safe environment free from medico-legal hazards
- Adhere to Netcare medical waste management principles and all other waste management principles
- Maintain a safe working environment in accordance with the Machinery and Occupational Safety Act
- Report potential and actual risks identified
- Ensure correct use, cleaning and storage of equipment
- Report equipment needing repair or replacement to sister in charge
- Maintain professional conduct and standards in line with hospital policies and procedures
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
- Act in a supervisory capacity over ENAs
- Practice patient care according to scope of practice and assume total responsibility
- Contribute to the holistic care of patients
- Participate in ward quality improvement programmes
- Attend handover reports at shift commencement
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding their care
- Promote patient overall health and wellbeing
- Practice infection prevention and standard precautions
- Promote and maintain good public relations with patients, relatives and visitors
- Execute all procedures according to hospital standards
- Refer complaints from patients and doctors to sister in charge of the unit
- Carry out all departmental duties as assigned by supervisors
- Support the education and training of ENAs
- Actively participate as a team member to achieve goals
- Actively involve yourself in own professional development to maintain skill and knowledge
- Keep up to date with Netcare evolving policies and procedures
- Assume responsibility for maintaining competence in CPR
- Build and maintain stakeholder relationships
