About the role
The Focus Group is seeking an experienced Engineering Lead to join their team in Sandton on a fixed term contract. In this role, you will be responsible for envisioning, leading, and developing fit for purpose technical solutions across multiple technologies. You will provide technical leadership, guide engineering leads and senior practitioners, and ensure the delivery of scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions aligned with the company's strategic objectives.
Key areas of focus:
- Technical Architecture and Solution Design: Analyse complex business problems, design integrated end to end solutions, define functional and non functional requirements, and ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture and governance.
- Engineering Leadership and Mentorship: Provide technical leadership across initiatives, mentor and coach software engineers and engineering leads, promote engineering standards, and encourage collaboration across teams.
- Technical Delivery and Problem Solving: Break down complex solutions into deliverables, assist with technical planning, troubleshoot delivery challenges, and work closely with designers and developers to resolve architecture issues.
- Stakeholder Management and Governance: Collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, and engineering teams, present solutions to governance forums, obtain technical approvals, and influence technical decisions.
- Innovation and Strategic Technology Leadership: Stay informed on emerging technologies, identify improvement opportunities, apply long term thinking, and ensure technology supports business strategy.
This is a contract position based in Sandton, South Africa.
Requirements
- Minimum qualification: Diploma
- Preferred qualification: BSc Computer Science or BCom Information Systems
- Preferred certification: TOGAF, ITIL or equivalent
- Minimum 8 years of experience in similar roles
- Industry experience in banking or financial services is advantageous
- Core technical knowledge: IT Architecture, IT Concepts, Systems Analysis and Design
- Leadership skills: technical mentoring, coaching, and cross team alignment
Responsibilities
