Overview
This is a solid opportunity for an experienced Electrical Engineer or Technologist to join a Cape Town team working on electrical building services, reticulation, MV distribution and infrastructure projects. You will manage projects from design through to construction close out, gaining exposure to water and wastewater infrastructure, pump stations and public works projects. About the role
Our client is looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer or Technologist to join their Cape Town team. This role suits a technically strong professional who can manage projects from the initial investigation and design stages right through to construction and close out.
You will work across electrical building services, urban and rural reticulation, MV distribution and engineering infrastructure projects. There is exposure to water and wastewater infrastructure, including pump stations, as well as health, education and public works projects.
Day to day, you can expect to conduct scoping investigations and condition assessments, design electrical systems, prepare tender documentation and administer engineering contracts. You will also oversee construction work, review contractor quality control plans, measure installations for payment valuations, resolve design queries and lead site meetings.

Requirements
- B.Eng, B.Sc(Eng) or B.Tech in Electrical Engineering
- 5 to 10 years of post qualification experience
- Professional registration with ECSA as a Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng is advantageous
- At least 2 years of post registration experience is advantageous
- Unregistered candidates with 6 or more years of post qualification experience who are eligible for ECSA registration within 2 years may be considered
- Experience in building services and engineering projects
- Proven experience with electrical and electronic installations, solar PV systems and fire detection systems
- Experience in urban and rural reticulation, distribution and MV networks
- Exposure to health, education and public works projects is advantageous
- Proficiency in Relux lighting design software
- AutoCAD proficiency is essential
- DIALux and Revit MEP experience will be advantageous
- Familiarity with BIM platforms, particularly Autodesk Construction Cloud, is beneficial
- Own transport and a valid driver's licence
Responsibilities
- Conduct scoping investigations and condition assessments of electrical installations
- Design electrical building services, urban and rural reticulation and MV distribution systems
- Design electrical components for water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including pump stations
- Prepare detailed tender documentation
- Administer electrical engineering contracts from project inception through to completion
- Act as Engineer's Representative where required
- Provide construction oversight and monitor works against design, quality and project requirements
- Review contractors' Quality Control Plans and Construction Method Statements
- Measure electrical and electronic installations and prepare payment valuations
- Address technical queries and resolve design related issues
- Lead site and technical meetings and prepare meeting minutes
- Monitor safety and environmental compliance during construction
- Compile project reports covering design, tender, progress, financial and close out stages
- Maintain regular communication with clients and professional teams
- Manage day to day project administration
